The Lucknow Sentinel, 1972-05-31, Page 17INTRODUCTION
The corn , crop is native to North America. Originally grown
by the Indians, corn has played an important role in the de-
velopment of the high standard of living now enjoyed on: this
continent.
Weeds have always plagued the corn grower. Since the
Second World War, chemicals have been developed to assist
farmers in the control of weeds in corn and other crops. -Atrazine
and its close relative Simazine have proven to be two of the
most effective herbicides for corn. Experimentation has also
shown that, the addition of a' small 'amount of a light mineral
oil, such as BP Corn Oil; will greatly enhance the activity of
Atrazine and Simazine. The result is' better • weed control and lesser rates of chemical can be used.
DESCRIPTION
BP Corn Oil is a selected, non herbicial, emulsified, light
mineral oil, which gyeatly imprnves the 1 qt emergence' activity of Atrazine and Atrazine - Simazine mixtures. BP Corn Oil plus Atrazine is especially effective in controlling emerged grass and
other annual grass species such as crab-grads, foxtails and old
witch grass. As well, annual broad leaf weeds are very suScept-ible to this treatment.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
To he most effective, TIP Corti Oil - Atrazine Spray should be applied when the weeds and grasses have emerged but are not more thanLinches-t-allinual-grasses-are-most-suseeptibl
when sprayed before they reach the three leaf' stage.
BP 'Corn Oil should be added to the spray tank at filling time, at the rate of gallons per-acre. The-Atrazine should
butiMied at the rates recommended by the supplier or man-ufacturer.
BP Corn Oil should be added to the_spray_tank_after_the_ -Atrazine-harbeen added and while the tank is being filled with
water. Agitate the mixture while filling the tank.
