RECREATION
This column will be a weekly
feature in the Lucknow Sentinel
fora the entirety of the summer.
It is being presented by the Luck-
now Recreation Planning and Dev-
elopment Committee , who, as
mentioned in last week's edition,
are working in conjunction with
the Lucknow Recreation Commit-
tee to bring a more complete
community recreation• programme
to the area.'
The The nominus "recreation" is
one that has been kicked around
for many years. It haS evaded
• the pat definitions of many res-
pected researchers of recreation
in Canada and the United -States.
And 'yet , it is one that is in very
common useage right here in our
own community. Recreation is
aterm used to ,deScribe'anything
from organized. softball to a game
of roadhoCkey, and, properly too. •
Rather than being overworked .it is
often not used in a broad enough
context, 'In .many cases such 'activ-
ities as a sewing club or 'an art
class are not' included. It is some-
times used Mistakenly in reference
t '"
all of theSe and 'many more.
fact, it may be Said to include
any •meanin.gful. activity volUntar-
ily participated in during leisure
time; That is one. of those "pat"
definitions that was• mentioned
earlier , and .while it dues not
completely cover the subject, it
does give a bit of•insight into' the
meaning. . •
It can be seen that recreation
includes a multitude of interests.
Perhaps you 1Know quite a few that
the experts haven't thought of yet.
In any case', we are interested in
what you do now for recreation,
what you would;,like to do in The •
future, oranythine.: else that is 0'i.
