On Monday, May 1 there was a
meeting held at Brookside School
for those interested in setting up
softball teams t for the summer
season. Mos of the area town-
sbips'were represented. It was
decided to have one convener
over all the different age groups.
Clarence Doherty was nominated
as president and Mrs. Barry Hack-
_At was nominated as Secretary.
It was decided that the age
groups for the different teams stay
the same as last year. The teams
would range from age 11 and
younger, 16 and younger and 17
and over.
Teams for 11 and young t' will
be from Kingsbridge , • West Wawa.!
nosh, Benmiller, North Ashfield,
Brookside , Dungannon , ,Port
Albert and hopefully Kinloss .
Teams for the 16,and younger
will be from Benrniller , Tort Al-
bert, North Ashfield Kingsbridge
Brookside, Dungannon, Nile and
St. Helens.
Teams for the 17 and over will
Lucknow, Dungannon, POrt Al
ben, Belfast; Norti. •
Ashfield and. Kingsbridge.

ing, to discuss a girls softball
league and it was decided that
there would be a further meeting
to make final plans when he had:"
heard from girls who were interest-
'ed in slaying. ,
It was decided that •the 11 and
younger and 16 and younger teams
would use an 11" ball and the
older division would use an
11 7/8" ball.
Base distances for 11 and young
er, , 45 ft. base and 35 ft. pitch-
ing with no lead offs.
16 and younger , 55 ft. bases
and 40.8 ft. pitching, no lead
of'fs.
17 and older; 55 ft.-bases and
43 ft. pitching, no lead offs.
It was moved by Hunter
and seconded by Stan Doherty
that it be left open for those
playing in W.O.A.A. or O.A.S.
.A. or any other organized ball
but they cannot play the same
positiorrin our league.
Shoes, spikes are to be allow-
ed in the senior team but not in
Oie other two teams,.
Gloves, trappers can .be used
for catcher .and 1st base , 'but the
rest have to use ordinary field
gloves.
It is hoped that the game/ will
be started in Ji.lne but the final
sign up date is_July 1st.
It was decided that John Austin
Donald MacKenzie and Clarence
Doherty will be the Co-ordina -
tors for, all the teaMs.
John Austin thanked all the
coaches for helping make last
year successrul and.17ifitiaThThi
luck for this year.
Clarence Doherty said he was
hoping that With co-operation
from the township's, that they
could get the ball diamonds, in
better shape this year.
Interest was also shoWn in a
boys soccer league. This is to be •
discussed at a later date when they
hear from those who want to play.
Any boys who did riot play base-
ball before and.are interested in
playing this year Are asked to get
in contact with the coaches or any
member of the Recreation Cornrni-
tees in their area.

At the end of the meeting some
of the men had a discussion as to
h9w_money ..was going to, be made..
to help the recreation committee
this year. It is hoped by the com-
mittees that people of the corn-
mimity will help Tome up with
some ideas. Whether it is a Walk•
a-thon or some other idea, the
Recreation 'Committee would be
glad to hear from you. •
The meeting was closed with
plans for more meetings in the
near future:

Listowel, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Murray Shiell, driver and)one
occupant of a car , lost Control of
his vehicle May 7 and drove off
the highway, struck a tree arid
the car rolled, The accident oc-
curred east of Wingham on High-
way 87. ,•He was admitted to hos-
pital via ambulance, in critical
condition. Mr. Shiell.was given
emergency treatment and then
transferred, to liamilson General
Hospital with severe head injuries.
