About the middle of last Fri-
day afternoon the Ripley fire

a grass fire was, burning out of
---controtarthe farm of Mr :- and

is located on the Bervie Sideroad -
south of• Bervie and north of the.
South Line. In the morning the
brush from a deal elm, which had,
been cut' down, on the east side
of the road, was set on fire. How•
ever during the afternoon the
wind changed to the east and blew
sparks across the road setting the
field on the. Blown farm on fire.
Mr. Brown was away at this time
and his two boys tried to .get it out
before turning in the alarm. ' It
took the firemen over an hour
and a half using brooms, and shov-
els to bat it out. By this time it
was threatening Irvine Brown's
woodlot. Among_those out from
Ripley were Chief Doug Liddle °

on Sunday afternoon and picked
up at the, local post office around

or, is it Kitchener, on a "joy ride".
There it is Sorted and brought , .
back to Lucknow , sometimes not
until Tuesday morning. This
seems to be par for the way the

Western Ontario. The question
now to be .answered en will
