Mike Burnham of Kincardine, is .lback home from St. Joseph's Hospital in London where he was treated for a fractured jaw, both arms broken and' numerous other , injuries including the loss of ten teeth. Joe, the grandson of Mr, 'and Mrs Norman Barnard of Ripley, suffered these many severe injuries in a recent snow 7 mobile accident. • - It is nice to see Walter Roul- ston of Olivet back home again and able to be around after an eleven day stay in Kincardine . and District Hospital for treat- ment Of pneumonia. First it _was the bonspiel for the high school curlers on Wednesday and Thursday with Joan Ferguson's team reported the winners. The adult committee supervising the event 'were Rev. George Ball, Walter Lock and Lot Culbert. After that it was the senior mem- bers curling for the team champ- ionship on Saturday. • • • Then in mid week it was also time for the Ripley Midget hock- ey team to play -off With Kincar- dine Midgets. The first game in the best 2 out of 3 series was in Ripley and ,after overtime Ripley won 7 to 6.:. That was on Tuesday evening. Then on Wednesday eveningrit *as b arena Where Ripley• again, had the edge winning 5 to 4. On Sunday • afternoon they started a best of three series with Listowel in Rip- ley. Om the team are goalie Blain 'Carruthers, Sandy Pollock, Boyd Carruthers, David MatDdnarld Wayne Armstrong, Greg Liddle Brian MacKay, Cannon Courtney,/ Bob BissOnnette, Barry-Elliott, Kevin Harrison, Roger Farrell, John Huston with John van Boyer' sub goalie. Looking after the team were manager Wallace Po17_ lock and toadies John D. -M.acKay and Howard Harrison. The reg- _ulat season's coach John Loomis was in Toronto on business. • * • • *. Besides the above Mr. George 'Armstrong and Clarence Pollock had. the Ripley Pee Wees in Young Canada Tournament in Goderich and-Doug Liddle and John D. 'Mac Kay had the Bantams in a tourna- ment in Paisley. Then on Friday. afternoon Elmer Courtney a.nd Terry Kumnier's Ripley. Juveniles jumped to a big win 9 to S down . in Oakwood near Peterborough. Nelson Hodgins arranged for one )f John Bormett's Bruce Lines" buses to make the round trip of over 400 Miles. In that game Oak- wood led 3 to Q till midway in the second period. Jim Farrell scored twice and with one second to go Brian Boyle scored on a passing play with Bill Kirkpatrick and Elliott Courtney. Ripley got four more straight goals 'in the-final period. Scoring were Bill Kirkpatrick, Dave MaCbonald , Wayne Arm- strong, and Elliott Courtney*. Oakwood then scored twice with five minutes to go. And once again Jim Farrell who opened •with 2 goals for Ripley again scored twice to make the final count 9 to 5. The Ripley team, its officials and fans were treated to lunch by the Oakwood team and is supporters before he long trip back to Ripley arriving here at 4 a.m. on Saturday. On Saturday ,eyening_the young people concluded the event with a dance back in the township hall.' / * * * * * Dennis Martin was home last week visiting With his parents Mr. and Mrs: Gordon Martin on the sixth concession east in Huron Township; Dennis attends Corn- ell University at Ithaca in New York State and is a player on the Cornell Freshman Hockey team there. The Cornell Senibr team coached by Dick Bertrand, law of .Mr . 'and Mrs. Don McLay, , lost out ,in the finals for the College Championship of United States in a game against Boston University. The Boston boys played at hOrne in the Boston Gardens, the rink Where the Boston Bruins play. The whole tourna- ment was held there.
