Such a situation has been created just north-east of Toronto, the site for the new international airport. The community of Brou- gham, population about 306, will likely be eliminated. LuCknow Sentinel, Lucknow, Dear Sir , In the column "Weekly Press" in Saturday's Kitchener;•Wa•terloo Record, I noticed the item from the Sentinel regarding Joe Conley, and your query about Leap Year. I am enclosing a column, "Uncle Ray's Corner" which I believe is the answer. I recall my father telling us there was no Leap Year in 1900: This would seem to be the-reason Joe Conley was 'cheated on one of these parties'. You will not doubt receive, dozens of other letters about this, but here is my contri- bution_anywa_y:.__ _ _ We. have on occasion driven through your little town when we. took our son co Silver Lake Camp. The need for Leap •Year's Day came about because the yearly trip around the sun takes a bit more than 365 days. It requires almost ; but not quite, one!. fgurch of day extra. If we add up the extra •tirne in four years, we have a:bout one day of time.. That day is accounted for by adding the 29th day to February once in four years.. ' To be exact, thesolar year falls short of an extra quarter day by 11 minutes and 14 and .three- tenths secondi.
