A letter' to .the editor in last. ',week's' edition .of the Kincardine .
News brought .out some -interesting points about weekly newspapers.
The letter was written by an Orangeville resident. In short, it highly.
"commended the Kincardine :.News for its good service to the Khmer-
'dine
icar'dine community' and for its good journalism and reporting.: With. this,
'we agree entirely.::
However, there was a statement" in the letter with' which we:
cannot ! agree .at all. It said,. "the News is, one • of the few remaining
ependently-owned weekly newspapers in Ontario." Much ofthe re

dicates which' ' have vastly improved the quality of newspaper ,which
is available to • the ;subscriber.
. Let's get back ..to the'statement• with which we took exception
Formany, years we have regularly attended' • the Ontario Weekly News- „
paper: Association • Conventions and when possible the Conventions of
the Canadian Weekly. Newspaper •Association.! Through these groups,
we have met many' hundreds of men and, women across Canada who
own and edit their own weekly. newspapers .' •
We realize' that in recent' years, syndicates have "crept into. the'

ploughing -bee for Fred McQuillin.
Fred had the. misfortune to fracture
several bones in•his foot a month
ago,and is getting around ,on : , g..
crutches. Those attending the bee
