The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation .announced recently: that it will discontinue all tobacco advertising on . the television and radio networks as' soon as present contracts expire.. First impressions in- dicate this as; a .noble gesture in view of the fact that CBC will lose $700,000 a year in doing so. Second impressions would indicate 'than perhaps, the gesture. is not .quite so' .noble in view of the fact that CBC annually dose many 'unions of dollar's of taxpayers motley and another $700,000 or so isneither here nor there with a corporation which ap ,pears to have limitless funds,; provided by the taxpayer, to do ' with as it sees fit. • But dollars are secondary if tobacco is the 'serious -health . hazard- . which it is claimed to be. But the .question arises in our :minds,' why single out the tobacco: interests in dealing such a sharp blow? .Tobacco is only one of the potential 'killers of our time : but the federal • government .seems determined to direct most of its campaign in • this direction. • • et, • v. eeken .
