Once• again my father. \equipped with well sharpened shears, went forth to shear.the neighbors' sheep, as he had gone to dress the hogs To -watch him in action looked like a simple performance but it was , anything but. Father moved swiftly and dexterouly until the sheep had •been clipped. The fleece was roll-. • ectsup, in a bundle, taken to the carding mill a few miles awayand returned in nice fluffy cards,ready for the spinning. yheel.. There were two types of spinning wheels in my day. There was a low-down type operated by a foot, treadle and 'there was the higher- uptype, operaied by a big wheel turned by hand. It was the latter - type my.mother used in' our home. A series of round belts connected from the large wheel to the"head" and smaller wheels turned the spindle around_which, the roll was . • ' • • twisted into yarn . • , . With the everting meal oveiLthe dishes washed and put away; *tit- er got out the spinning wheel and began to turn the carded rolls into yarn.
