from the top of the hill, • built about
1852 wheh a great number of .:
settlers found their way into "the

it served 'as the ;
home of the McTavish farnily
until replaced 'by a frarne house,
built in, 1889: The latter structure •
stood on top of the, hill overlooking.
the Eighteen 'Mile River.
• The'building consisted'of logs
flattened on two sides and chinked
with lime plaster to keep but the
cold. • Later the outside was boarded;
with rough lumber to preserve, the
to s•from,the weather.. Underneath
the first floor was a• small cellar,,
Walled .in by split cedar 'to hold •
back the earth and •in that dark
underground; room were stored'the
vegetables for 'Winter consumption..
The second floor was supported by
dressed joists about six. by ;eight
inches in size and. covered 'with
tongued and grooved floOring...itvio
windows.opened ,out to the north•
and south ends. of the• upstairs ;
which was divided into two large
rooms for sleeping purposes. Ace,'
est to this upper floor was gained 'by
a smallclosed-in. stair built in 'the
north -east corner: Two Windows
and. one dooroserv)ed, as entrances
from the outside world. These were

fireplace on the north,. wall, .brought

Osch had his right hand severely
injured in a farm accident Tues-
day afternoon. He was taken to
Wingham and District Hospital
where several .stitches were requir-
