I am sure there 'are: many quest-
ions pertaining tothe opening of
a coffee 'club :called OBSTENTION
in. Luoknow'
A .group of the youth of our town'
started thisclub' because of a need
for- teen-age 'entertainrnent, in.
. Lucknow.
From -'this..hope , adult s>Spi5ort''
and much work and planning we
came up with a new and exciting
plan forour enjoyment inthe
form of a coffee club called
OBSTENTION :to beheld in the
basement of 'the Mayfair.. Restaur-.
By .the way..'. OBSTENTION .has
no meaning, we made up the
name from ABSTENTION.
. Ne are well chaperoned each
evening as we listen to the enter-
tainers; participate in .games •
such as chess, checkers, cards',
Ouija, and, other -absorbing games,
eat, and join in'round, table dis-
cussions,..
Anyone over' 15: years of age can
'come to OBSTENTION;every Fri
day night that we are open from'
9 ,p. m .. until 1:'a.m. -However;
everyone must` be aim.ernber to
attend.
Sale of membership cards have
given us: the money -for a. clear
conscience and. a debt free: start..
This system also. enables ,us to;
control the behaviour of ;fellow
members, as do a 'few other well
'defined rules.
We now have one hundred and
forty-seven members coming from.
Toronto;, London, .Guelph, Seafor-;,
th, Teeswater, Lucknow, Ripley;,
Kincardine, Goderich and surround
ing areas. •
OBSTENTION has been open
three evenings, with entertainment
each night. Our entertainers have
been two folk:groups,''"The Good
Griefs"'.from Seaforth'•and "The
Washington Squares" from Exeter:.
A. dance iri the new dining -room
of the .Mayfair Restaurant to the
music -of "The Last .Remains" , a "
group; from Kincardine, was held.
the second night for a .little varia-
tion,
This chance that we offer for
escapeism and 'getting together
*with' friends and an opportunity to
hear talentedentertainers has kept
Pur attendance between seventy ::.
and eighty-five. This. coming :Fri
day night a chess tournament will
beheld and.the winner, will' play
a well ' known disc : jockey from;
CKNX radio, Wingham , 'who also
does some advertising for us, ' •
Marty Adler!
Support and: assistance froth every
one who helped us in our
furniture and game.drives, donat
ions of items'we'needed, .and
understanding,, gave use the boost'
that really sent .us' in .the'right
direction for. a very,;successful'
beginning }
If any interested' personswould,
like to find out more,about what
we are doing they are invited,to •
a Friday night gathering to get a
complete picture 'on OBSTENTION
