Parnell, award -wining corn grower of Drumbo, says REPORT FRONT. .....QUEENS PARK by Murray Gaunt, M. P. P. ,'Huron -Bruce. :Agriculture` Minister, William Stewart, ;announced•to the House. ' that the'price for milk being used. for the manufacture of'mult ilk has been reduced from'$5.29 c,vt,. to $4.85. This decisionwas made by the newly created' Milk Comm- ission. which rescinded an earlier decision by the Ontario Milk Mark- eting Board. The Ontario Milk Marketing' Board has announced that.. beginning April .1 the price for Milk usedfor multi -milk would be $5.29 cwt. Previously the price was $3.84 cwt, It: was hoped that the. price for multi -milk would be close to fluid milk, its major competitor, • in view. of this price ct.ange 1/4, George McLaughlin,; Chairman of the Milk. Marketing Board point- ed out that the $5.29 cwt. price would place multi -milk in the same category asfluid milk.; In addition he stated that any other price structur€_ould be unfair competition to the fluid product. In recent years Multi -milk sales have been .cutting into fluid milk sales particularly in Northern Ont- ario: Consumers have been switch- ing to multi -milk solely on the basis of price. Multi milk is sim- ply ordinary milk with the water content greatly reduced. The con=. sumer, simply adds water prior to use. The manuf 'cturers of multi -milk objected to this price change and met with the .Milk'Commission to appeal the decision of the Board. As a .result, the Minister announced the•decision to reduce the price to the producer to $4.85 per cwt. The first open enrolment period in OMSIP . the Ontario Medical . services Insurance, Plan yesterday has been extended 2 weeks to May 16. Coverage still begins on'July 1. • The .Minister of Health, Dr. Dy- mond said the extension is necess ary because rnany'.pensioners are confused, some wrongly believing they have been enrolled in the schemeautorraatically. OMSIP enrolment totals 1,100, 000 • persons- plus those received in. the'last few days which could bring the total as high as 1,250.000. OMSIP has facilities designed. to handle medical insurance for about 2,000,900 persons. Apparently the confusion has arisen over the•difference between Old Age Security pensioners and Old Age Assistance pensioners. Persons on Old Age Assistance are automatically enred in •OMSIP but those receiving only Old.Age Security pensions must complete applications if they want Q vISP . coverage.
