Last week Lucknow District Nigh
School Board rnade'the toughest
decision to face them in. the, ten
years since the. District was, form-
ed. The question facing them was
:whether :to attempt to carry on
Funder increasingly difficult cir- •
cumstances, or.amalgamate with
the larger Wingham High chool
District. They decided' on the . •
latter choice
Yes',, the decision was atough
one to: make; Lucknow' fought
hard to retain their school'when
the larger districts began -forma-
tion, They were successful., and
.:for :a few .years their school ran
well and .efficiently o Of latter
years, with'educatonal costs soar-
ing° almost .out of bounds and good
teachers becomingincreasingly
difficult to obtain in smaller'
schools, plus the fact that incre'as-
ed educational. facilities and. cour-
ses could not be handled, the. task
of carrying op became well-nigh
impossible. Pupils in numbers
were being taken to the larger
W ingham 'District School for 'tour,
ses not offered: in Lucknow, and the
future outlook was for 'more and ,
more requiring the sante consider-
ation of transportation and.tuition
provided each year,,
Teeswater endeavoured',. at the
time 'of •the:formation of Districts,
to retain their, high, school, but it "
slipped away' and we joined. up with
Wingham ` There were hard feel-
ings about it et that, time, but

time is a great healer, and today

granted.. We tried hard, but fan
so, As the old saying goes "if yo

we did, Seeing the great chang
in education over such a few yea
and realizingthat we too, would
be faced with the same problems
as Lucknow (if our school hal. Our

ed must surely be washed away,
.with no regrets r,ernaining.
We feel for Lucknow in their 1s
but would like to add that the lo
is not nearly as great as they pos
ibly now imagine. The obtainin
of a larger.public school to repra
their 'high school will adequately
fill the gap.
