INCREASE ALLOWANCE'
Considerable discussion centred
around fees presently paid. to dir-
ectors of the Co-op and it was felt
by some speaking out that they
were not high enough to; warrant a
man; taking time .off from: his own
farming operation .to attend: the
meetings. ,The matte was pies- .
ented to. the meeting: by Alvin Robb.
and Evan Keith, both.directors who'
were retiring this year and who
would not benefit from. any increasei
Fees of $3 per meeting for direct-
ors,' $4 for secretary and $5 fpr
president have been paid plus mi-
leage.
Various' amounts -were suggested,
Mr. Robb felt that $5 straight wo-
uld be more in line while. others
felt that this was still low. Jack
Curran suggested an.;'$8 ,figure. It
was pointed out that 'many meet-
ings run more than a half .day.
Hiram' Pangburn of Huron Town-
ship felt that directors should be. .
paid '$1.50: per hour plus travelling
expenses in view of the ,fact that,
their time should be worth as much
as it would cost to hire a man, to.
do their work .while they were
away, . Oliver MaCharles said he
had: served as: a director for six
years, with the first five of them
free. . ,
The district manager was quest-
ioned about his opinion on the
matter. • He said that fees :vary
considerably in the area but that.
a rate had been agreed on,by LJCO.
at $6 for a, half day and $12 for
a full day as being a reasonable'
one. He said that Co-op .memb-
ers ,oust be prepared to pay mere a .:....::
t for their time involved in Co-op
business.
A motion to this effect was .
made by'Hirarr Pangburn and sec-
onded by Currie Colwell, '
