of Kinloss Township for: most of

icipality for 33 years as clerk,: Ob-
served his 91st birthday on Wed-
nesday January 26th.
Mr. Lane resides with his daugh-
ter and. son-in-law .Mr. and. Mrs.
Frank Maulden and: their son.Keith
on the farm he purchased prior to
his marriage, . just west of . the
Lucknow'Blackhorse road'. on the
14th of. Kinloss.
Mr: Lane was.'born on January
26th;: 1875, at Lanes store in 'Ash-
field Township. He. Is 'the:son of
John Lane and Eliza Rutherford and
his. father was storekeeper at ,Lanes-
ville at that time His father :was
a native of Devon, ,England: His
parents la prgave•. up the store ;
keeping nd we to Algoma where
they. p .ch. r ,r,; grecs:, An
attempt to garage a school, at .:
Algoma 'failed., and because of '
this Mr.: Lane's father'decided.to
return.to this;area, ; He 'purchased'
the home farm which is now: occ=•
upied'.by'Mr. Lane's' brother Mal-
colm and which is adjacent to:the
farm occupied by the Mauldens
and Mr: Lane. This was in 1881
when "J. R." was.six•years old.
Here Mr, Lane, the eldest of t
.family:, and his brothers.and siste
grew up. A year • before his Man
iage•in .1906, he•purchased his •
place to the: west of the home
place from `Toni Atkinson ': He
later purchased' 50more acres; fro
his brother Hugh who had the fare
west of his, to give him 150 acre

Frank'Maulden and Keith came' •,
'from Northern Ontario and took

continued to live with: them sinc.
