MONTREAL LIVESTOCK MARKET There was a pretty large supply of butchers' cattle on the markets, but the drovers were vainly striving to get nearly as much as was paid last Thursday, and the butchers seemed in no hurry to buy, although they were generally bare,of stook. Sales were slow, and the prices realist(' were slightly higher than they were a week ago, but not nearly so high as on Thursday and Friday. The best beeves sold at about 5c per ib., And a few head were held at Sic do., pretty good stock sold at'from 41}c to 41c, and 'common steers and fat cows at about 4c per ib, with leanish beasts down to 3o do. Large numbers of small calves are being sold at from $1 to $3 each, but goad veals would bring much more, as there are very few of them being brought to the market. Sheep are in • fair supply, but the quality is not so good, and prices are lower. Unshorn sheep Eell at from 4ic to 5c per lb, and those that have been shorn at from 4c to 4,ic do. The supply of lambs is small and the quality is not very good, and prices are from $3 to $4.50 each. The sup- ply of hogs is rather small, and prices continue about as high as usual, or from 6:1c to a little ova r 7c per lb. The horse trade continues active, and a better quality of horses are being marketed. The shipments of horses from here to the United States were, one stallion costing $850, and 185 common horses costing $22,064, on an average of $124.13 each. The highest priced large lot were 17 horses which cost here $2,770, and the low- est priced lot were 21 horses which cost 41,957. .....••••••••••••• TO [IONTO LIVE STOCK MARKET. The run onTuesday was fair,being25 loads, Cattle ruled firm, but small stock was easier all round. There was a good demand for butchers'cattle mostly on local account. There were a number of eastern buyers here. but they went in more for hogs than cattle Prices were firm at a slight advance. We cannot, however, quote higher prices. There is a gradual stiffening in the values of butchers' cattle, and the tendency is to still higher prices. Good to choice loads find ready Nur- chasers at $4.50 to $5 per cwt Oth(r grades in proportion. Feeders in good demand but scarce. Sales were of medium lots weighing 850 to 1,050 lbs ar $2.75 to $3.60 per cwt. Milk cows quiet. Not many of good quality offerred, and these are the only kind wanted. Common slow. Calves plentiful, but the general run being of pretty fair quality, sales were readi- ly effected at steady prices. Common however, rule slow. Among the sales were; 3 head averaging 100 lbs, at $3,35 per head 7 do, 125 lbs at $4,- 25; 4 do, 130 lbs, at $6; 11 do, 110 lbs. at $4,50. Spring;lambs ateady, selling from $3 to $7 a head. A bunch of 10. averaging 55 lbs, sold at 83.40. and one of 15 do, 50 lbs, at $3 75; 4 sold at $4 e>;cq ,'- 2 at $5, and 1 at $7. CLINTON MARKETS.
