MONTREAL LIVE STOCK MARKET
There was a fair supply of butchers'
cattl e on the market to -day, but very
few of them were prime beeves, and
anything good brought higher prices
a11 round. The best animals brought
from 41-c to 5/c per lb., pretty good cat-
tle from 3e to 3,}e per lb., while a few
of the leaner animals were sold at .less
than 3o per lb. Calves are iu active
demand and anything moderately good
brings pretty high prices. Mutton crit-
ters are scarce and sell in mixed lots
at about 41c per lb., while good lambs
bring up to 5o -per lb. Very few live
hogs are being brought to the mrrket,
and prices are from 5c to 5c per lb.
Dressed hogs sell in lots at about 7fc
per lb. The horse market continues
fairly active, and during the past week
the shipments to the United States
were two breeding mares, costing $500,
and 77 working horses, costing 98,b67,
or an average of $104.76 each. The
highest priced lots were 19 horses, which
cost $2,117, and the lowest -priced lots
• were 10 horses, which coat $665.
TORONTO LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Receipts of live stock on the Western
Cattle Market Tuesday were forty-two
loads, being the largest on record for
any day at this season of the year.
Besides these there wore four or five
loads of cattle held over from last week.
Export cattle. ruled dull. A few head
were taken for sale in Montreal at 3ic
to 4,ic per lb, top prices being for two
or three head of very choice. --.for this
season of the ,year. Bulls were in fair
supply, and sold at 3 to 3-ic, with a few
at 3ic. There was a heavy rain of but-
chers' cattle, and prices went off at a
to ac per lb, with a great many nnsold
at the decline. Quality of the offerings
was fair, with quite a few loads of reas-
onably fine prime'stock. Prospects for
the remainder of the week are bad, lo-
cal butchers have bought freely at the
decline to -day. Rest loads sold Tues
day morning at.equal to 3ie per lb. with
picked lots of choice cattle at 38 to 3c,
and common in the neighborhood of 21.
Sheep and lambs were more abundant,
and prices were lower, selling mostly at
$4,75 to $5 per head, with small as low
as $4 and heavy up to $6. Prices look
as if they would remain lower all week
Among the sales were 109 head, aver-
aging 120 lbs, at $4.80 per head; 30 do,
80 lbs, at $4; 30 do, 1501bs, at H.
