Upon motion of Revs. Rose and

was tendered to Dr. McLellan for
his address.
Friday Oct. Ilth.
On resuming business Mr. Groves
introduced the subject of "Uniforn
Promotion." He clearly explained
the systetn. He thought it' it were
adopted it would, after a short tilal.
prove a success. The following ate
some of his arguments:
It would lesson the work of the in-
spector which is now so burdensome
owing to so much work in connec-
tion with entrance examinations. It
would inereage average attendance
in our schools and also increase
pupil's interest in school, together
with parent's interest in school
matters. The only serious objection
against the system was .'that the
school would be in one' continual
strain for coming examinations."
Discussion on this subject, by
Messrs. Turnbull, Malloch, Duff,
Thompson and Doig followed.. Upon
motion of M'essrs.Malloch and Turn.
bull the president (Mr. Groves) was
appointed to draft a conitnittee of
five and prepare a scheme of promo-
tion and send a copy as soon as pos-
sible to each teacher in the riding
for consideration until next meet-
ing. Dr. McLellan ou resuming
same subject as he dealt with on the
preceding day, took for his first
topic "When shall we teach poetic
literature ?" He said it should be
begun in first book; that attention
should be drawn to the gems con-
tained -in the different readers.
Space wIll not permit further detail
on the subject which was prized so
much by all present. Mr,Thompson
then explained his method of teach-
ing "Prime factoring" and insisted
on teachers that this rule may be
applied to the solutions of many
questions which would be difficult if
solved otherwise.

From his report it was evident, Mr.

Toronto as he gave a very full ac,
count of the_business_tr.ansacted at
that nneting.
The last paper was Mr..Blackwelfs
on "The teacher out of school." He
. thought the. teacher should employ
his time out of school, as far as time
would.n„ernait; in the visiting of his
ratepayers, that literary and debat-
ing societies wero beneficial in
promoting teacher's reputation in.
the section. .

although ho had hold of her by the
arm. She sought refuge in a lower
'Wyndham street -store. In the
afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Lehman
were driving home. When opposite
Millar's butcher shop, on Elora
road, Mr. Cowan ran out and caught
hold of' the horse. The driver
applied the Whip but the Inspector's
muscle was in good shape and he
hung on. Mrs. Lehman know what
it all meant. She got out of the
buggy and started down the street,
Cowan went hot • foot after her.
Then Behest 'Miller appeared on
the scene and grabbed hold:- of
Lohman's horse. Lehman told him
to let go. Robert wouldn't. • Tho
whip was again taken from its socket
and vigorously applied to the horse.
Mr. Millar went down in the mud
ingloriously and with a thud that
was dull. Meanwhile strong in-
cidents were transpiring in the
lives of Cbwan and Mrs, Lehman,
Being the speedier of the two the
inspector soon caught up with the
pursued and laid violent hands upon
her. 'Tis said ho tore her jacket
and entailed her bonnet. Ho tried
to shove the blue paper into her
pocket, but missed his aim add lot

that ensued the summons Was tramp-
led itra cruel manner and rendered
utterly useless. Messrs. Cowan
and Miller retired. Mrs. Lehman
rode home triumphantly with
her husband.—Guelph Herald .
