A Crazy Oruoifier
.A late Australian steamer brings
details of a most revolting tragedy
tliat occurred in New South 'Wales
on Aug. 28. \Wadhan•\Windham, a
man of excellent standing, becom-
ing suddenly attacked with religious
• frenzy, Murdered his wife and throe
children, all of whorl ho loved
most dearly. In explanation, 110
• said ho felt called upon by God to
commit the deed. Tho resurrection
was near and their time had come.
As \Vindham's wife offered resist-
ance he took her out doors, and
with a stone broke her skull. Ile
then took a carving -knife and fork
and thrust them into her side. ITo
also pierced her hands and.foet, ex-
plaining afterwards that he intend-
ed to crucify her, as Christ was cru-
cified, His favorite daughter had
four nits on her forehead, and the
right side of her skull was beaten
into a pulp. She had two pierced
marks on her breast, two on each
footand two on each hand. Tho
marks appeared to have been . trade
with a fork. The left silo of the
skull of his son was battered, his
left side was pierced in two places,
as also were his hands and feet.
The otherson seems to have been kill
ed direct by. a cruel fork thrust entire-
ly through the loft side of the body.
The hands and feet of all were pier-
ced, as it was Wadi -iron's intention
to nail the bodies to a cross, they
refusing to be thus nailed while
alive.

this fall when it became dry.
—Goo.Elliot, an influential young
farmer of Nassegeuaya, lost his life
by a falling tree. It appears he
had chopped the tree. In falling
it lodged iu another and in attelupt-
ing to dislodgo it he got caught
underneath and was killed instantly.
It is understood that Mr. H. A.
L. White has received the appoint-
ment of post master of St.•Mary's,
in tho.place of P.M. Nicol, deceased.
There wore about half • a dozen
applicants for the position. lir.
White will make a good and efficient
official.
Hugh Gilmore, an employe of the
Michigan Central ' railway was
knocked down by a. yard engine in
St. Thomas and instantly killed.
His, remains were removed to
Mitchell or Palmerston whore his
friends reside.

—At the Pieta!), Ont,, assizes
George Hart, merchant, was sued
by Miss Lucy A. Yar wood for
breach of promise. The plaintiff is
27 years of age, and a dress maker
in Piston. She stated that six or
seven years ago defendant promised
her rii nt ridge, and that'he had kept
her company c\ or since until last
spring when he married a Miss
Philips. The Jury found a verdict
for plaintiff, with damages of
.$800.
—Oct. I., while Chas. O'Brien,
who runs a threshing machine, was
engaged iu the barn of Mrs. Don-
nelly, about nine miles from Brace -
bridge, Samuel Taylor who owned
a rival machine, entered the barn,
when an altercation arose between
the two men. It appears that ill -
feeling had existed between thea:,
and' bn this occasion Taylor accused
O'Brien of undermining him in
getting the Donnelly threshing,
claiming that it had been promised
to him, Taylor. Tis was denied.
Taylor then calla O'Brien a liar,
when1
t to latter truck him t\vice
and lie fall into the arms of some
workmen, dead. O'Brien gave him.

resident of the township of Macau-
