In his 'roll of last year Assessor
Cottle had 120 dogs enumerated and
there were probably half as many
more Ownerless, for the time being,
dogs about town. From present ap-
pearances the treasury will not 'd'erive
much income from thatt soureg •this
year. .

On Friday evehing last tbe members
of the Woman's Bible Class of Willis
church met' at the home of Mrs. Wal-
kinshaw and when all had gathered,
they, presented ,their leader,. Mies
Janet Wilson, with a hymnal and a
handsome gold mounted umbrella, as
a slight token of appreciation for her
painstaking and faithful work in con-•
nection; with the class, . After the
presentation .refreshments were serve
ed and a very pleasant time was

zling shauid be careful to secure
muzzles which comply in every re-
spect with the recuirernerits of the
order. One: of the most .important of
these requirements is that the Muzzle
shall be of some approved metallic
substance.
HORSE BUYING.-
Mr. C. J. Wallis has already
bought over seventy :horses for the
western . market and makes' a ship-
ment: to Seek. next week, At the
prevailing high- prices so many hors-
es represent a big sumof money.
Mr. Oliver Johnson has also been
actively buying, as in past seasons,.
and will commence shipping shortly.

Mr. John Perdue of• the' Bayfield
Line had a sale on Thursday last
when the ' hammer was wielded very
successfully by Mr.. D. N. Watson,
who recently became a citizen ' of
Clinton and has taken out a license
for this county. Before coming here
he carried on an auctiontering bus-
iness at Listowel for years and it is
said 'to have been a nip -and -tuck race
between Mr. Watson and another as
to which -was the best . auctioneer in
the whole county of Perth, •
