Farm families featured by IPM

Emily Morrison, newly -hired by
Huron County to help market the
2017 International Plowing March
(IPM), has opted to focus her
attention, and hopefully the attention
of others, on the community's great
farm families.
Morrison spoke to Huron County
Council at its Oct. 19 committee of
the whole meeting, updating
councillors on her plan to market
next year's IPM in Walton and how
it might translate into a continued
marketing strategy for Huron
County's agricultural lifestyle.
Morrison, who grew up on
Lucknow's Morrison Berries
Country Market, told councillors
that earlier this year she was
struggling to find an angle to
promote the Huron County lifestyle.
However, as she was driving home
from work one day, she saw a farmer
driving a tractor with his two sons on
his knees and she remembered living
out that exact scene with her father
on the farm when she was a young
girl.
It was when she saw that that she
realized though she didn't know this
familt, they shared the same
moment. This launched the idea to
profile the community's great farm
families that make the area an
agricultural leader in the province.
She then endeavoured to highlight
great farm families in the
community through a series of
videos and other promotional
materials ahead of the 2017 IPM in
September.
At the Oct. 19 meeting, Morrison
then showed councillors two videos
that have already been produced.
The first shines the spotlight on IPM
host farmer Jack Ryan, his son Joe
and their families. A second video
highlighted area farms of interest
like those of Central Huron Mayor
Jim Ginn between Clinton and
Goderich, the Dark Horse Winery
near Grand Bend and the Red Cat
Bakery north of Goderich.

and confidence of staff, management
and council, and so I'm pleased to
appoint him to this position."
At the same meeting, Horseman,
along with paramedics Mark
Crawford, Bill Lewis and Marion
Taylor were recognized as recipients
of the Emergency Medical Services
Exemplary Service Medal from the
Governor General of Canada. This

It is hard to believe the great
weather we have had and there are
still some soybeans out there waiting
to be harvested. The corn harvest is
going well according to most with
good yield and low moisture. Many
folks spent the weekend getting
more of their outside work
completed and folks are still cutting
grass. I thought the last time would
have been a few weeks ago, but no,
the grass still needs to be cut! With
the fall work well on the way, it is
reminder time to say it is just two
months until Christmas!
Four Walton area ladies had an
experience of a lifetime and it was
broadcast to the world last week.
The ladies were guests on the
Marilyn Denis Show and had a "full
throttle" makeover. Diane Anderson
wrote into the show nominating her
best friends or "biker babes" for the
makeovers. Diane was joined by
friends Brenda Dalton, Cheryl Ryan
and Dianne McCallum. The ladies
were introduced and they explained
their "casual style" and how they
wanted to mix it up. Off they went
and when they returned, they looked
"awesome". New hairstyles and
colour and new clothes to set off
their new "amped up casual style".
The ladies looked great and did very
well on the show. Scanning the
audience, I recognized Sheila Bauer,
but I am sure there were others.
Good job ladies!
Congratulations to Christine
Knight who was honoured with a
surprise celebration at Canadian Tire
in Listowel, where she has worked
for 30 years. They had cake and
streamers and some fun. Congrats
Christine for all your years of hard
work!
The birthday bunch gathered at
JR's Restaurant this past week to
celebrate the October birthdays of
Laura Barbour and Betty Cardiff.
They were joined for dinner by
many of their friends including Joan
Bernard, Marie, Betty and Lois
McCutcheon, Merle Cousins, Betty
Campbell, Audrey Cardiff, Jane Hall
and Deb, Alice Marks, Sandra
Cable, Rene Richmond, Leona
Armstrong, Jean Davidson, Nelva
Scott, Isabelle Wheeler, Dale
Chesher and Edna McLellan. That
was quite a crew and lots of talking,
but they had a great meal and a
enjoyable time celebrating.
The Walton Hall was the gathering
place for the Chesley Saddle Club
and their annual meeting. They
enjoyed a potluck meal and then
held a meeting. They had a good
time with lots of laughs.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week included Clyde McClure,
Harper Lee, Bryan Kelso, Ron
McCallum, Brett Lee, Lois McCall,
Janice McCallum MacGillvary,
Michael Parr, Doug Bauer, Wayne
Todd, Andrew Groothius, Ray
Wheeler, Teresa Baan, Tanner Leslie
and Dan Taylor. Happy birthday to
all!

and efficiency. These four
individuals received their awards at a
ceremony hosted by the Ontario
Association of Paramedic Chiefs on
Sept. 29 in Collingwood.
Morrison told councillors that
while the videos will highlight some
great aspects of the community's
people ahead of the match, it is a
campaign that can continue for years
after the match.
Councillors praised Morrison and
her early work on the campaign,
saying they'd like to see the videos
playing in local community centres
where visiting families are likely to
see them most.
