On Sunday, Oct. 30 Bruce
Whitmore will be conducting the
church service at Knox United
Church, Belgrave.
Saturday's fundraising for Shelter
Canada was a great success at
Belgrave United Church. Visitors
enjoyed a silent auction, bake sale
and soup and slider lunch. Many
thanks to all who donated for this
event. A total of $2,613.50 was
raised and will be given to Shelter
Canada to help purchase houses for
families in need in El Salvador.
Team members Larry and Barb
Harper and Yvonne Coultes will
leave on Jan. 28, 2017 with the team
of approximately 10 people for San
Vicente. They will travel from that
city daily to a community where the
houses will be assembled.
Salvadorans are some of the most
hospitable faith -filled, kind-hearted
and generous people you will meet.
In 2000 and 2001, a series of
earthquakes shook El Salvador.
While most of the population was
already struggling with poverty, the
devastation from the earthquakes
created critical and life-threatening
situations.
Hundreds of thousands of people
were left homeless. One-third of the
six million people live on about $1 a
day and many are forced to go
without adequate food and shelter,
the basic necessities of life. Shelter
seeks to provide solid, secure, safe
homes for families in need and help
bring faith and hope to their hearts -
truth that God does exist, care about
them and wants to bless them, not
with money, but with love, joy and
peace.
Shelter Canada seeks to provide
safe, eye-opening trips for
Canadians to see the way the
majority of the world lives. We seek
to help Canadians realize what really
matters in life and that contentment
does not come from owning more
things but in experiencing God's
love as the only true source of joy
and peace.
Over 1,000 homes have been built
in the past 11 years - working with
World Partners of Canada. With
continued interest and growth, it was
decided to give the work in El
Salvador an identity of its own.
Water meters named for capital projects
Morris-Turnberry Council has
decided to apply for funding from
the Clean Water and Waste Water
Fund to help with upgrades in
Belgrave.
While council had been told about
an option for water meters in
Belgrave, council decided to use
the funds for capital costs
suggested by water system
operator Veolia.
Included is the computer data
logging software for the water
system, the filter media for the
system and chlorine board and
potassium permanganate boards
which hold their respective
systems and occasionally need
to be replaced.
With the cost of the upgrades,
project management and a 51 per
cent contingency plan, the upgrades
would cost $90,800.
The report, which was prepared by
Administrator Clerk -Treasurer
Nancy Michie, also advised council
that the well may need to be

"The grant won't cover those
