Teenage brain seminar scheduled for Huron Chapel PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN By Mark Royal) Call 519-441-2223 There are these mysteries which perplex us today like: Who shot John F. Kennedy? What happened to Malaysia Flight 370? What really goes on inside the mind of a teenager? I may not be able to help you get any closer to answering those first two questions, but I can help you with this last one. Youth culture specialist Paul Robertson gave the first of two seminars at Huron Chapel this past Monday evening where he spoke to parents, grandparents and youth leaders on the topic, "Understanding The Teenage Brain". With 40 years of experience working with youth, Robertson has done various radio interviews, television appearances and written many articles on youth culture. He has partnered with Walt Mueller at the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, a non-profit organization committed to building strong families by serving to bridge the cultural -generational gap between parents and teenagers. This past Monday evening at Huron Chapel, Robertson had us take an in-depth look at the physical, A special occasion Knox United Church in Auburn held its annual anniversary service on Sunday, which featured guest speaker Rev. The strategies Robertson shared with us were so relevant and the advice he gave was very practical. Even though my three daughters are in their 20s, their brains are still developing and Robertson shared insights that personally helped me to better understand as a father what is happening in those developing brains. Paul Robertson will be back at Huron Chapel again Monday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. to speak on the highly anticipated topic, "Understanding Media — Making Wise Choices". Robertson will have us look at how media and our young people have become one. You can no longer separate a teen from the digital technology they consume daily. In this seminar Robertson will look at how media shapes all of us, how teens make decisions often influenced by media, and a process for discerning right from wrong in our media selections. If you are a parent, grandparent or work with youth you are welcome to come. There is no charge to attend.
