County to retain 'West Coast' brand in '17
Following approval of the five-
year strategic economic
development plan by Huron County
Council in December, 2015, the
of Economic
Department
Development has been charting a
new course for tourism promotion in
Huron County. Tourism is identified
in the plan as one of seven key
growth sectors and is therefore being
resourced as a priority by the
department.
To highlight our region's signature
visitor experiences and enhance the
appeal of our destinations, tourism is
An important day
It was a beautiful day for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 218 along with the Ontario Trillium
Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario, to open the barrier -free addition to the
building. Huron -Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Trillium Foundation representative Don
Butland were in attendance to present Legion President Jo -Ann McDonald with the plaque.
The foundation contributed $73,500 to assist in making the building fully accessible with an
addition to facilitate use with a lift, two barrier -free washrooms and accessible double doors.
The foundation encourages initiatives that remove barriers and open doors so more people
can fully participate in their communities. The Legion has an 85 -year history in the village and
continues to create partnerships to provide improved access to programs and services. The
Legion thanks the foundation for its support and looks forward to the increased usage of the
Branch for years to come. (Vicky Bremner photo)

attributes are found in Christ. As
Paul wrote earlier in 1:15&19, "He
[Jesus] is the image of the invisible
God... God was pleased to have all
His fullness dwell in Him..."
When you repent and receive
Jesus as Lord of your life, you have
all of God. The sense of the Greek
here is, "You are in Him filled full."
Jesus is the only One who can truly
satisfy and complete you, plug that
God -shaped hole or vacuum at the
centre of your soul. Accept no
substitutes! Other idols will only
leave you disappointed, hungry, and
empty — a chasing after the wind.
Jesus is the Real Deal; trusting in
Him you receive the whole shebang,
all of God. No more of these
heresies about needing to do "X" to
attain communion with the divine.
At a recent retreat, a pastor from
Waterloo introduced us to a circle
divided into four quarters, each with
the letters A -S -I -A. These stand for a
sequence in what he called the
Performance -Driven Mindset:
achievement, significance, identity,
acceptance. The world tells us if we
work hard and perform well in our
business — become an achiever that
will give us significance. From that
we derive a sense of identity — who
we are, respectable in the business
world; and, amongst our peers,
Acceptance. However this cycle is
driven by fear. "Will I achieve my
production goals next month? Will
the market flop? That person over
there is getting ahead of me. Will
others view me as a failure?" And so
on.
However, for someone who trusts
in Christ and honours Him as Lord
of your life, the cycle works in
reverse. Instead of the Performance -
Driven Mindset, we could call this
the "Grace -Fuelled Outflow".
The Bible leads me to believe
Jesus died for my sins and through
Him God the Father has reconciled
me to Himself. "When you were
dead in your sins and in the
uncircumcision of your sinful
nature, God made you alive with
Christ. He forgave us all our sins,
having cancelled the written code,
with its regulations, that was against
us and that stood opposed to us; he
took it away, nailing it to the cross"
(Col 2:13f) That means I'm accepted
by the most important being in or
beyond the whole universe!
By faith in Jesus, I am "in Christ",
I have a new identity. I know now
God loves me and values me, so I
have worth and significance. I no
longer have to perform in order to
try and earn that! That frees me from
fear of failure or inadequacy. God's
grace now empowers me to actively
live for Him and others. So now out
of acceptance, identity, and
significance springs achievement. A-
I -S-A: God's grace has reversed the
direction and anxiety of the
Performance -Driven Mindset.
So let's not fall for the
counterfeits, whose nonsense leaves
us hanging, depleted, dissatisfied,
and empty. Jesus is the real "stuff',
in Him we find solid spiritual
substance. "You have been given
fullness in Christ..." (Col 2:10)

being combined with arts and
culture. While staple tourism
programs will continue in 2017,
such as the Ontario's West Coast
brand and the annual Ontario's West
Coast Guide, several new and
complementary initiatives are
planned, including:
• The establishment of a Tourism,
Arts and Culture Enabling
Committee comprised of industry
representatives, Huron County
Economic Development Board
members and staff of the
Department of Economic
Development. The mandate of the
committee will be to work in
partnership with the communities
that have identified tourism, arts and
culture as a key sector in their local
economic development strategies.
• Responding to marketplace
demands, the 2017 Ontario's West
Coast Guide will be created in a
format that utilizes best -practices in
terms of design, information and
online accessibility.
• The Ontario's West Coast brand
will remain in place for 2017.
Following an industry best -practice
to periodically evaluate a brand's
effectiveness, a review of the
Ontario's West Coast brand will be
scheduled to occur in the near future.
• The County will proudly
continue to promote specific tourism
opportunities online using Ontario's
