Great representation
Team Julie, a cycling team assembled by Blyth's Julie Sawchuk and her family, made a great
impact on Sunday at Greg's Ride in Milton — a cycling journey that raised money to make
cycling safer. The ride is named for OPP Sergeant Greg Stobbart, who was killed while cycling
in 2006. Sawchuk, who participated in the ride herself with a hand bike, assembled a team of
nearly 30 cyclists, including friends, family and neighbours, including locals such as Annie
Sparling, Jeff Peters and Lisa Pot, as well as Theo, Ella and Oliver of the Sawchuk family.

2016 to be another
good year for YMCA
By Shawn Loughlin
The Citizen
Through program diversification
and continued outreach into the
community, the YMCA in Clinton is
having another good year in 2016
says Kathi Lomas -McGee.
Lomas -McGee spoke to Central
Huron Council at its Sept. 19
meeting, telling councillors that
while there are some challenges,
things at the YMCA are generally
positive.
This year, she told councillors that
the YMCA hosted three weeks of
literacy camps in partnership with
the Avon Maitland District School
Board, as well as a number of other
programs, including scholarships,
the return of the Group Fitness Team
Lead and a recreation arts and sports
program. The YMCA was also an
integral partner with the March
Inspiring Women event that brought
in 300 participants.
Figures are a little lower than
anticipated, she said, but there is still
time throughout the year to make up
ground.
The YMCA in Clinton currently
serves 385 members. Its 2016 goal
was 392, which was further
down yet from its 432 members
in 2015.
The organization has also fallen
short of its new sales target of 179
memberships, tallying 166 so far
this year, after 164 sales were made
in 2015.
Retention has been a bright spot,
she said, with 58 per cent of
members being retained at the
Clinton site. The goal for the year
was 57 per cent, she said. Eleven per
cent of those members are assisted
by the YMCA through a charitable
arm of the organization.
