At the Branch Dignitaries on hand for ribbon -cutting A grand opening After months of construction and several successful fundraising events, the Brussels Legion officially opened its new barrier -free entrance on Saturday. It was aided along the way by both the federal government and the provincial government by way of the Ontario Trillium Fund. Niece Nici was married on Sept. 17 to Beau in Jubilee Park in Marwayne, which is near Kiscoty and Streamstown or north of Lloyd minister on the Alberta side of life. So lots of chatting took place as the Edmonton boys, Phil and brother Clif looked after our sleeping issues. Travelling to Alberta were Bob and Barb, Bill and Pauline, Chris and Lara and Ralph and me, as well as stepbrother Tim and Vicki Keil. .4.,-.... , Brussels i Farmers' Market Friday, September 30 2 pm - 6 pm Downtown Brussels Food: Bornholm Church Music: Jacco Vandenbriunhorst on accordion - has played markets in Holland Weekly Vendor Draw Winner Marie McCutcheon addition for over 100 in attendance. The ceremony began with the Brussels Pipe Band playing to welcome everyone to the event. Comrade Glenn Bridge was the emcee for the day. The Sergeant -at - Arms Comrade Lisa Glanville and in Brussels Brother Jim, father of the bride now lives in Rimby, but was pretty busy before the wedding to do a lot of chatting, but we caught up after the ceremony. So Alberta hospitality and scenery with Native traditions in the ceremony and party, plus family time made for a great week. Meanwhile in Brussels, the fair was being prepared. A tradition for us that just gets better each year. All reports of the event were positive with each person having a favourite incident to tell. So good work and thanks to the many volunteers who do their bit each year — a good example of community in action. We had two interesting guests on Saturday night. Comrade Glenn introduced the guest speakers including MPP for Huron -Bruce Lisa Thompson bringing congratulations form the Province of Ontario and then Don Butland, representative for the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Lisa and Don then presented President Jo -Ann McDonald with the Ontario Trillium Foundation plaque, recognizing their contribution to the accessibility project. Bringing congratulations from the federal government was Huron - Bruce MP Ben Lobb, who also recognized the enabling grant contribution to the project. Words of congratulations followed by Bernie MacLellan, Mayor of Huron East, Joe Steffler, Huron East Deputy - Mayor, Comrade Patty Sergeant Gibson, District "C" Commander and Comrade Eric Ross, Zone "C" Commander. The final remarks were given by President Jo -Ann McDonald who thanked all for attending and for their support of the Brussels Legion. The Veterans of Branch 218 were recognized and introduced by Comrade Bridge and they included Comrade Ross Bennett, Comrade Bush Whittard, Comrade Cecil Moore and Comrade Charles Procter. The ribbon -cutting ceremony followed. The closing ceremony was conducted and the colours were marched off and the Pipe Band played to end the ceremony. Everyone was invited in to tour the addition and enjoy a social time with light lunch and refreshments provided by the Brussels Army Cadet Corp 2967 parent support committee.
