The Citizen, 2016-08-25, Page 7THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 25, 2016. PAGE 7. Huron East Council to host Brussels meeting In order to accommodate Huron East councillors attending the Brussels Fall Fair, the Sept. 20 council meeting has been moved from Seaforth to Brussels. Council made the decision at its Aug. 9 meeting, saying that it is often an annual decision, as the fair typically falls on a council meeting night. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m., but a location has yet to finalized. The meeting will either be held at the Brussels Library or in the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre meeting room. Councillor David Blaney applauded the decision, saying that residents are always saying to him that they'd like for more meetings to be held in Brussels. Mayor Bernie MacLellan is planning to arrange a follow-up meeting with concerned residents of Brussels, showing that their concerns have been addressed. MacLellan was the focal point of a meeting held at the Brussels Legion in June, called by former Huron East Mayor and Brussels resident Joe Seili. Several dozen residents turned out for the meeting and listed their grievances about how things are going in the village, discussing everything from property standards to the condition of the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. At the meeting's end, MacLellan promised residents that he would return with answers to all their concerns. Some were addressed the next week at a special Administration Committee meeting, while others had to wait until the municipality's three recreation boards met. The Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre Board is set to meet soon, Chief Administrative Officer Brad Knight told MacLellan, so answers will have to wait a few more weeks. MacLellan said he told residents it would take him up to six weeks to respond, so he felt he was still within that window. Council approved a new street parking plan for Seaforth that will do away with the controversial mix of angle and parallel parking. Barry Mills, Director of Public Works, presented council with his proposal at its Aug. 10 meeting, saying that a parking plan with only parallel parking is safer and less confusing. While Seaforth Councillors Nathan Marshall and Bob Fisher both took issue with the new plan, saying they had received word from numerous business owners who wanted to keep angle parking, council passed the new plan. In a recorded vote, all present councillors voted in favour of the new plan, with the exception of Fisher and Marshall. As of the end of July, Huron East has issued 103 building permits with a total value of over $18.8 million. By the same time in 2015, the municipality had issued 91 permits for a value of $14.8 million. *** Council approved the creation of a new solar revenue reserve. The issue was discussed at council's July 19 meeting, where Chief Administrative Officer Brad Knight suggested that revenue from numerous municipal solar projects should be placed in a reserve and used on future energy conservation projects. *** Councillor Brenda Dalton reported that organizers of a recent barbecue at the Winthrop Ball Park raised over $3,300 for the park and related undertakings. DREAM HOME OF THE MONTH PLAN NUMBER 1.2-665 DESIGNED FOR A SLOPED LOT This two-bedroom home, designed for a lot that slopes to the back, appears compact from the outside, but contains all the amenities any home -owner could wish for. And since the plans include an unfinished basement, there will be lots of room for expansion. Beyond the covered porch, always a boon in bad weather is the foyer, with a coat closet ahead and to the right. Directly ahead is the great -room, with a gas fireplace to ensure cosy evenings during the cooler months. Generous windows overlook a covered deck. Ceilings in the great room and the foyer measure 11 feet high, while the rest of the ground - floor ceilings are nine feet. Also overlooking the back garden, with a doorway to the covered deck, is the dining room, where an optional buffet will provide extra serving and storage space. In the sleeping wing, the master bedroom is located at the back of the home, for privacy. As well as a roomy walk-in closet, there is an en -suite with double sinks, a tub and a shower stall.
