(Photo submitted) Mystery structures for the birds PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO By BRENDA RADFORD Call 523-4296 Those of us who live outside of town in more rural areas are used to seeing swallows in the summer. They like to swoop over the gardens and lawns and pester dogs and cats. Nests in the rafters of barns and sheds are commonplace. This spring we had a pair try to build their nest right on the brick wall of the house just under the roof overhang. Try is the right word, for I wasn't long knocking it down! All this is preamble for an explanation of those wooden structures I asked about last week. Two men offered the same Father's Day front and centre at church The senior choir was in the choir loft to offer a musical number for Father's Day at Londesborough United Church on Sunday, June 19. During the children's time Rev. Fletcher talked about the importance of celebrating Father's Day. Like many others he regrets not spending more time with his father and listening to his stories. Consequently he encouraged everyone to visit their fathers when they can to share stories, to learn about their lives and get an insight into their feelings about life. Terry's adult message was "The Words We Use". In this case the words/names we use to designate a father. The supporting scripture passages were Proverbs 4: 1-5 and John 8: 18 and 19. The responsive reading was Psalm 103. The top finishers at our local track and field meet travelled to Strathroy in early June to compete against the best from six other Christian schools in the district. While the team didn't fare so well this year, there were a lot of excellent individual performances from the Huron group. Graduation at Huron Christian School is a community event. The Senior Kindergarten class graduates to full-time school, and we celebrated with 16 students and their families. In the evening we said goodbye to 11 Grade 8 students who will be moving on to a variety of different high schools. It's been a busy and event filled over Huron County picking up our 145 students. We've experienced a great year of exploring and discovering new things about God's creation. We've grown physically, emotionally and spiritually. We've developed new relationships. We've had opportunities to serve in our school and in the Huron County community. This 54th year at Huron Christian School has been a blessing from God in so many ways. We look forward to sharing about our school when we return in September. An honour Huron Christian School Grade 1/2 students enjoyed a visit to the Wawanosh Nature Centre to start a unit on the animal world recently. (Photo submitted) Father is a very formal term that is not often used for an earthly parent. Instead each language has its own more familial terms such as pater, fader, daddy, dad, papa, old man, etc. most of which have their origins in the first sounds a baby makes. When the disciples asked Jesus how they should talk to God, His reply was as if speaking to their father. For God, as Jesus said, is His Father or Abba and is the heavenly Father of us all. Ergo our relationship with God should be like our relationship with our earthly father. And we need to know God and learn His love. The disciples were considered by Jesus to be part of His family together with all His followers. Those who are committed to doing God's will are all Christ's family. Many of us were fans of the TV show M*A*S*H. A quote on the order of service came from Colonel Potter: "I don't care how poor a man is; if he has family he is rich." June 26 will be the last service for Londesborough United until Aug. 2. Rev. Fletcher will be on holidays for the month of July. Congregants are encouraged to worship elsewhere for the month. The decoration service for Ball's Cemetery is July 3 at 3 p.m. Guest speaker is Rev. Paul Ross. Special music by "The Harbouraires". Everyone is welcome. explanation. They have been erected to entice swallows in the area to nest under the roof. Swallows apparently nest under culverts and bridges and if construction is planned for an area the structure is built well in advance. This made sense for the one east of Clinton along Highway 8 was built in the area of last summer's roadwork along there. The Londesborough Happy Gang Seniors will meet in the Londesborough United Church basement on Wednesday, June 29 at 12:30 p.m. for a potluck. All seniors are welcome. This seniors' group was responsible for the June Birthday celebrations at Huronlea on June 15. They enlisted Londesborough United's senior choir to help. It was a pleasant hour and a chance to visit with folks whom we don't see on a regular basis. The seniors learned recently that one of their own, Florence Snell, has been experiencing some health issues. She would surely appreciate a card, a call and your prayers.
