MLS#216366 In action Saturday's Brussels Ball Day was heralded as a success by all involved, in that it raised thousands of dollars for new equipment for Brussels Minor Ball and for a new generator for the Brussels Fire Department. The day began with a victory by the Brussels Squirts over Seaforth and, unfortunately, ended with a loss by the Brussels Tigers at the hands of the Wingham Hitmen. Here, the Mites were in action just before the big Brussels Fire Department charity game in which the locals took on a team full of radio personalities from Wingham. (Vicky Bremner photo) NH looks at alternative house plan for Blyth Continued from page 1 housing for the artists and for guests," Chambers explained during the council meeting. "[Smith and 14/19 Inc.] have come up with a concept to create a tiny house village. We're looking at different examples of this across the province" Chambers reported that a proper site plan would need to be created for whichever property was chosen for the project and the intention of the report was to make council aware of the initiative. "The group is looking at potential sites in Blyth and wanting permission for me to stay in contact with the group and act as a liaison between it and council," she said. "It is looking at private and municipal sites now, and when it comes up with a preferred location, the site will need a plan with servicing requirements, a plan for how to fund the housing and hopefully how council can make a decision and support this project to address this annual problem in Blyth." Councillor Trevor Seip asked how this could impact the residents of Blyth, specifically in regards to assessment numbers throughout the community. Earlier in the meeting, Seip had asked about the processes employed by the Municipality Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) and how one assessment can change others and he wanted to make sure the houses wouldn't drastically alter other ratepayers' assessments drastically. Chambers stated that any changes would have to be considered as part of a business plan for the site, which would be necessary. Deputy -Reeve James Campbell asked what impact the project would have on the people who currently rent residential facilities to the Festival and Chambers reported those individuals were part of the project. She said the shortage of housing is something they are all struggling with. Council approved Chambers as a liaison for the group, but not until Councillor Brock Vodden said he supported the idea but only if it considered a year-round approach and not focus on only the Blyth Festival season. Study partnership considered After concerns arose regarding the suspension of the Huron County Health Unit's wind turbine study, a partnership may be on the horizon. The Health Unit held its regular meeting last Thursday, where the issue was discussed. When it was announced that the study would be suspended, it was for a variety of reasons, including the fact that the Health Unit didn't want to duplicate other studies on the subject ongoing throughout the province as well as costs associated with a study of that magnitude. There has also been turnover at the Medical Officer of Health position that must also be considered. However, at the June 2 meeting, Huron County Board of Health Chair Tyler Hessel said there is hope in the form of a potential partnership with the University of Waterloo, which is working with Wind Concerns Ontario on a similar study. In a recent interview, Hessel said that while the two potential studies were similar, the University of Waterloo study would be able to delve deeper into the subject due to better human and financial resources. As a result of this decision, the Board of Health has invited a representative from the university to a future meeting where a partnership can be discussed further.
