Continued support
For the last two years, the Blyth Lions Club has supported the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund
and its annual Run Around the Square to the tune of nearly $500. At the club's most recent
meeting, Fund founder Patrick Armstrong, centre, and volunteer Jessica Mann, right,
presented Lions President Alex Blair with a certificate of appreciation for the club's continued
support. Armstrong also conducted a defibrillator demonstration for the club, saying that Blyth
is now the Huron County community with the most Fund -donated defibrillators. (Shawn Loughlin

Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, June 5
was Lavern Clark. Ushering were
Laurie Sparling and Lissa Kolkman.
Marilyn Scott was pianist and Kattie
Dockstader was choir director.
Connor Brooks ran the power point.
Rev. Gary Clark welcomed
everyone to church and drew
attention to the announcements
printed it the bulletin. The
congregation sang Happy Birthday
to Katie Dockstader who celebrated
her birthday on Monday. Reid
Button lit the candles on the altar
table along with the Christ candle.
The opening prayer was said
responsively followed by the singing
of the Lord's Prayer.
Rev. Clark invited Karen Glousher
to come to the front as this was the
last Sunday for the Sunday Fun
Group. Karen reviewed for the
congregation what the children had
done during the year. Karen told the
congregation that the Sunday Fun
Group had made some changes, one
of which was the name of their
group. They chose heroes of the
Bible for their themes throughout
the year. Karen took the
congregation through the months of
the year and the children held up the
craft that they had made during that
month. The favourite one of all was
the making of a snake that
represented the snake in the Garden
of Eden.
The first hymn was "Tell Me the
Stories of Jesus" Karen then told the
congregation of all the special things
they had done in December. "Away
in a Manger" was the next hymn.
In December the Sunday Fun
Group had a cookie bake sale and
with the proceeds of this they had
made up goodie bags for the kids in

How can I avoid the annoyances which continually harass me?
(J.R. Miller, "Help for the Day")
The true victory is not found in escaping or evading trials --but in rightly meeting
and enduring them.
The questions should not be, "How can I get out of these trials?" How can I get into
a place where there shall be no irritations, nothing to try my temper, or put my
patience to the test? How can I avoid the annoyances which continually harass
me?"
There is nothing noble in such living. The soldier who flees when he smells the
battle is no hero; he is a coward.
The questions should rather be: "How can I pass through these trying experiences-
-and not fail as a Christian? How can I endure these struggles --and not suffer
defeat? How can I live amid these provocations, these reproaches and testings of
my temper --and yet live sweetly, not speaking harshly, bearing injuries meekly,
returning gentle answers to insulting words?"
"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and
forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord
forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together
in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12-14
