Annual review of Cadets held at Brussels Legion Branch
Ready for inspection
The 2967 Brussels Army Cadet Corps held its 37th annual review last week on a sunny
evening on the side street next to the Brussels Legion. Captain Perry Bast CD, left, a Listowel
native, was the inspecting officer for the year, who was accompanied by the Corps'
Commanding Officer Captain Paul Dawson. After the inspection, a number of awards were
handed out in accordance with the Corps' annual activities as dozens of friends and family
members looked on. (Shawn Loughlin photo)

Ah, the rains came, just enough to
make life less stressful for the poor
thirsty plants, now it seems they
grow before your eyes — think grass
and corn.
Busy and fun was the weekend for
many in the village. Several of the
groups that make Brussels a good
place to live were out doing fun
things. Minor Ball members
organized and ran a full day of
games that had everyone who was
anyone in at least one game. Then
the Fire Department was out and
about letting us know of the needs in
community. Thank you.
The 44th Annual Lions
Elimination Draw was a sold -out
success on Saturday evening. Good
food and good company is hard to
beat. Add ice cream and music and
life gets even better. The Ballaghs
from Teeswater once again offered
their many talents to an appreciative
audience. New and original music
by the four Ballagh children was a
new part of the show and a reflection
in the diverity of the music they can
offer. Audience response gave full
approval of all that they performed.

An offering by Ava McCutcheon
showed the muscle strength and
control of her 10 -year-old body. Her
dancing abilities (in a not -so -ideal
venue — the arena floor) were
received with awe and wonder. Her
talent was obvious and that showed
us just why she is heading to
competition in Germany as part of
the Canadian team. Good work Ava.
A box was available for folks to
support the McCutcheons in the cost
of getting Ava to dance in Germany.
Feel free to offer them your bit.
