exciting because it has a woodlot on
it as well.
"Gardens can take on all kinds of
different forms," she said. "It isn't all
about flowers or vegetables or
shrubs but about anything we can
grow"
Another site that features an
impressive woodlot is The Purple
Rooster, operated by Ron and Linda
Henhoeffer.
"There is a very impressive tree
stand there," she said. "The Ontario
Woodlot Association has defined it
as being truly native"
Hamilton -Seeger explained that
the Henhoeffers had to work to make
the woodlot representative of local
species and the final result is
exciting and definitely worth taking
in.
The site is located near Gorrie on
Harriston Road and can be found at
number 11 in the pamphlet.
Fryfogel Tavern Museum and
Arboretum near Shakespeare is also
a unique experience, Hamilton -
Seeger said.
"They have lovely gardens, which
is great, but they also have this
historical building which is very
exciting," she said.
The museum and arboretum,
located at number 25 in the
pamphlet, is a five -acre native plant
restoration arboretum dedicated to
trees, and pollinator and heritage
gardens and features a
park -like atmosphere that is open
year-round.
The interest in vegetable growing
tips has also been the focus of the
information that is provided in the
pamphlet for growers.
Every year, the project features
tips and tricks for growing and this
year, vegetable growing trips,
including the Blyth Garden at the
former Blyth Public School is
focused alongside several local
gardens.
The pamphlet also outlines local
one -day garden tours.
This year, four tours are featured.
Locally, there is a garden tour in
Auburn on July 18 with attendees
meeting at 6 p.m at the Auburn Hall
and a tour in Goderich on July 23
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for
the Goderich tour cost $10 in
advance or $12 on the day of the
tour and are available in
front of the tourism office at 91
Hamilton Street.
Stratford and St. Marys will also
host garden tours on July 3 and July
9 respectively.
Next year, to coincide with the
International Plowing Match to be
held in Walton, the organizers of the www.gardensofhuronperth.com
tour are considering preparing a
two-year brochure to encourage
visitors to return to the
area in 2018.
