Each of us has our causes, our friends and our favourite charities to support and so your choices this week were many. Dinner in support of the Maitland Valley Foundation, trivia night with the ball team, celebrating with the Jutzi and Snell families for their upcoming wedding or eating out with the Presbyterian folk. So really there was no need to be bored or hungry this past week. Besides those, you could do the usual things available dinner with Cinnamon Jim, cards at the Legion, darts at the Jam Jar or watching the ball/soccer teams get their team mentality together. If that's not enough I'm sure there are sticks/garbage to pick up in many places. April is a busy month - income tax time, Earth Day, Volunteer Week to name but a few of the things to think about in these last few days of April. The warming days have a good feel to them as we watch in fascination at the size and speed of the farm equipment all ready to make our food. Oh yes, April is a lovely month. We're sad this week about the tragedy of Lena Sieger. Any sudden death gives everyone a moment to pause and think about the life that is ours. So as life as we know it goes on, Lena's family is left with grief and questions and profound thoughts. So as they deal with the loss of mom and grandma, keep them in your prayers and kind thoughts. Spring says growth, so if you need a wee flower, 5R's has some sweet growth in tea cups that would be a good gift for a small space. Check the plants out, they're good ones. Listening to CBC on the weekend, I heard a man give a quote that seems so appropriate for this time and this place. "It is better to be in right relations than to be right". That got me thinking about conflicts whether it be family, church, arenas, minorities or our First Nations people. First we need to listen to the story from the other person's point of view, no interrupting or reasoning allowed. Often in our haste to fix, we jump right over that part. The older and more talked about, the harder it is to find a solution to the issue. It is possible when ears take precedence over mouths and tempers are balanced with understanding, common ground will surface. If we all practise a wee bit everyday, at least me, it may rub off Check out what's new at Cinnamon Jim's Thomas Beard one man, one cello Friday, April 29 • Dinner Music - 6-8 pm Reservations recommended .rJ All Day Saturday Breakfast 4 lal, Sunday, May 8 family -style meal - 11 am - 2 pm By reservation only 412) Catering Menu Frozen entrees and sides available 401 Turnberry St., Brussels 519-887-8011 al Spiting, MaJ.
