Student minister Brian Hymers
welcomed the congregation at Knox
United Church on Good Friday,
March 25. He went over the
announcements as printed in the
bulletin. On Easter Sunday a Sunrise
Service at Donnybrook Cemetery
was held at 8 a.m. with breakfast at
Trinity United Church at 8:30 a.m.
with the regular service at Trinity
United Church at 9:45 a.m. and
Easter Service at Knox United
Church at 11:15. Communion was
served at all three services.
After the call to worship read
responsively Brian rang the bell
three times and he brought the Christ
candle into the church. "Go to Dark
Gethsemane" was sung followed by
the prayer of confession which was
read responsively. The words of
forgiveness and assurance were read
pertaining to the covenant which the
Lord had made. The choir anthem,
"There is a Green Hill" was sung.
Brian read the poem entitled "Crown
of Thorns". He read the scripture
passage of this day's events from
John 18: 1-40. The congregation
sang, "Were You There", followed
A tradition unlike any other
Green is the official colour of a number of events. When golf's Masters tournament is won, the
winner gets a green jacket and on St. Patrick's Day, everyone wears their best green to help
mark the occasion. Ryan, left, and Tyler McMichael got festive for the Belgrave Community
Centre Board's wing night on the weekend of St. Patrick's Day — a night when the board
hosted dozens of hungry diners at the centre that night, as the group is extremely well known
throughout the community for its fabulous chicken wing dinners. (Vicky Bremner photo)

Playground fundraiser gala set
THE EDITOR,
Throughout 2015 and into 2016
thus far has been the time for making
connections!
Each month has brought
surprising and satisfying
relationships. Not only are we
talking about those close family and
friends around us, but inspirational
relationships with acquaintances we
barely knew. This is a model of how
positive partnerships can work to
achieve outstanding results in a
community.
The Building Bridges to our
Future campaign is in support of
three projects being shared by
Maitland River Elementary School
and F.E. Madill Secondary School,
both located in Wingham. These
projects, when combined, will create
outstanding and accessible outdoor
athletic, playground and learning
facilities for students in our schools,
for sports teams and for individuals
in the community. This committee
was formed out of necessity.
Without a group of dedicated
volunteers to drive fundraising
efforts, this project simply would not
happen. There are no provisions for
any public funding for these kinds of
facilities that are such an integral
aspect of our lives.
In support of this initiative, the
volunteer organizing committee is
holding a gala dinner and auction
this spring. The response has been
overwhelmingly positive to the April
30 event. Already over 250 of the
available 300 tickets have been sold.
Sponsorships along with the
donations of intriguing live auction
items, interesting silent auction
items, and tempting raffle baskets
have been very generous.
From its infancy, this project has
had an intense focus on accessibility.
It was literally unexpectedly injected
with a huge dose of passion when
one of our own community
member's lives, Madill teacher and
Blyth -area resident Julie Sawchuk,
was directly impacted. Julie will be
the keynote speaker at the gala
dinner and auction on a spring
evening in April. Julie's story of
facing and overcoming challenges is
a book you cannot put down! Her
blogs and the people she has touched
are fascinating. Other guests include
David Greig, a past Madill athlete,
and now a paralympic coach and
David Willsie, Canadian rugby gold
medalist paralympic champion.
However, this exciting initiative
represents more than simply an
event. It models for a community
and especially for the young people
in it, many positive messages; it
radiates collaboration, inclusion and
perseverance. The many Building
Bridges to our Future campaign
committee members have reached
out to form new collaborative
partnerships in an effort to ensure
benefits for as many community
members and organizations possible.
The goal is to have up-to-date
facilities that the entire community
will find attractive and welcoming to
use.
Please support the Building
Bridges to Our Future campaign.
This is an excellent opportunity to
invest in a community initiative that
will benefit people of all ages.
It is a gala event, but more than
that, it is a celebration of an
incredible community. The
excitement is contagious. It is not
too late for you to be involved. Visit

Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. Regular Council Meeting
by Brian reading from John 19: 1-
42. He extinguished the Christ
Candle and wrapped it in linen cloth
and placed it in the tomb.
In Luke 23: 32-34 two other men,
both of them criminals, was also led
out to be put to death with Jesus.
When they came to the place called
"The Skull", they crucified Jesus
there and the two criminals, one on
his right and the other on his left, —
Jesus said, Forgive them, Father!
They don't know what they are
doing."
Just like the criminals who asked
Jesus for help as he was being
crucified, we too can ask for help
and be saved.
The closing hymn, "In the Quiet
Curve of Evening" was sung as the
congregation made their way
forward for the anointing under the
cross and leaving the church quietly,
concluded the service.

read responsively and Acts 10: 34-
43.
Communion was celebrated. The
children's hymn, "Halla Loo Song"
was sung and the children gathered
in the front pew and Brian read John
20: 1-18 pertaining to the "Empty
Tomb".
After the hymn of response, "The
Day of Resurrection" was sung and
the offering was collected and
dedicated. the closing hymn, "Jesus
