Happy Easter to you and I hope
you had a good time on the long
weekend. Lots of family and friends
were in Brussels at different times
over Easter, as families came
together to celebrate this wonderful
time of the year.
One family meal to celebrate
holidays is important in this house.
It takes a little time to consult all
those involved, but the effort is
worth it. Saturday night was the time
of choice for us this year and do you
know, it tasted just as good as it
would have on Sunday.
The gainfully employed crew
enjoyed the extra time off, as getting
together with lots of different
schedules can make family meals
extra special. Co-ordinating family
times can get pretty wild with
working shifts and weekends and
on-call but when it all comes
together and only a couple are
missing — it's wonderful. Shared
food is always better.
Part of being family is celebrating
each other and our many
differences — lively discussion is
usually part of the routine. The
children hit the different stages of
life, the grandchildren grow and set
their personalities and so hearing
their take on the world is always
enlightening. So another time of
memories made at a Happy Easter
time.
Planning ahead is always a good
thing, so mark the summer week of
July 18 to get the little people in
your life to Kids Corner 2016. Plans
are underway with the Camp Kintail
people to make for a fun week for
our kids. "Courage in Community"
is the theme so a good way to help
the children learn and grow. Yvonne
Dettweiler 519-887-6098 would
love to take offers of help at many
different levels of involvement.
Hours for high school students can
be recognized. So mark it now and
invite your young friends to be part
of this community event.
As each season changes, we see
the passing of time for us and are
reassured of the steadfastness of life.
We think of the changes in our life
and how adaptation is the only way.
For Emily and family, George's
memorial service last week was life -
changing. Death is part of the life
cycle, a time to evaluate life.
So in the days ahead as the
Cousins family grieve, tell them
stories of the memories George
made for you.

The general meeting of the
Brussels Legion Branch was held on
Tuesday evening. The usual business
of the Branch was discussed. The
fish fry season is beginning and
there were discussions about
upgrading some fryers. Everyone's
new jobs concerning the
preparations for the dinners and who
was attending the first fry on the
weekend was confirmed.
Branch Service Officer Mabel
Glanville reports that any veterans

At the Brussels Optimist Club's annual spring dinner and
auction, there were a number of lucky winners. First, there
was Joan Jacobs, not pictured, who won the night's 50/50
draw, and then there was, from left, Heather McArter, Laura
Hallahan and Deb Seili, who came out with jewelery from
the club's annual candle draw. (vickyBremner photo)

will be in the area in late May.
Contact Mabel at 519-887-9086.
The next general meeting in April
will be elections for the new
Executive of the Branch. It would be
nice to have a few new faces join the
executive. There are monthly
meetings on the fourth Tuesday of
the month. The meetings are
approximately two hours in length.
There have to be more Comrades of
the Branch who can become more
active in the Branch affairs by
joining the executive. Call the
Branch to find out more
information.
The Branch was the venue for the
Millstone Crop Services meeting for
producers. They had over 50 farmers
attend the day sessions. Providing a
soup and sandwich lunch were
Comrades Linda Bird, Mabel
Glanville and Judy Lee.
The Thursday night darts had a
real fun night of darting. There were
14 darters enjoying the night.
Winners were: first, Wayne Smith
and Sandra Josling; second, John
Stadelmann and Kae Smith; high,
Chris Brown, 106 and Sandra, 132.
There was no Friday night supper
as it was Good Friday. This week is
bone -in ham.
The first fish fry of the year was
done for the Seaforth Curling Club.
The crew did a great job for the first
time out and amazingly, nothing was
missing or forgotten. The crew
consisted of Eric and Deb Ross,
Glenn Bridge, Ken and Linda Bird
and Jo -Ann McDonald.
