Above Mary Bernard lets fly with her shot during the games earlier in the day. (Denny Scott photo) The Brussels Curling Club ended the year with a Bonspiel on March 12. They had a full slate of 20 teams for the day's play. The morning draw of 10 teams included teams from Brussels, St. Catharines, Vanastra and Goderich and area. The first place team for the draw was skipped by the youngest player on the ice, Jack Pipe, a great young and upcoming curler at 16. He had some seasoned players on his team and had three good games. Second place went to Ernie Lewington and third Rick McDonald's team. Fourth was Mark Bancroft, fifth. Janet McLean; sixth, Stacey Culbert; seventh, Kriss Snell; eighth, Jennie Schimanski; ninth, Matthew Cardiff and 10th, Debbie Coultes. Lots of good games and fun for all. The second draw was also full with 10 teams hoping to be winners. They came from Brussels, Seaforth, Mitchell, Listowel and area. The winner of the draw was an experienced team from Seaforth with Jack McLachlan as skip; second, Steve Steiss; third, Brad Knight; fourth, Les Cudmore; fifth, Darrell Uhler; sixth, Jeff Wolfe; seventh, Don Osborne; eighth, Steve Knight; ninth, Doug Green and 10th, Jake Henderson. Again a great bunch of curlers and everyone had a great time. They enjoyed a great roast pork dinner at noon and a soup and sandwich supper before prizes were awarded. The theme of St. Patty's Day was celebrated with lots of "wearing of the green" by teams. It was a wonderful way to end the curling season in Brussels.
