The Citizen, 2016-03-24, Page 7First food, then auction The Brussels Optimist Club held its wildly successful spring auction and dinner Saturday night at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre, which, this year, raised funds for the Sunshine Foundation. Among those taking in the evening's bounty ahead of the live auction were Matt and Julie Shortreed, left, the winners of last year's 50/50 draw at the dinner. The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance is calling for nominations of individuals who are interested in serving as a Director on the Board. Directors are elected for a two year term and subject to a bylaw change, will serve as a director of the Listowel Memorial Hospital and Wingham and District Hospital. Elected Directors must have a strong interest in health care services and meet eligibility criteria as defined in the corporations' bylaws. If you would like to be part of a volunteer Board that will help forge the future of acute rural health care in our communities please forward an expression of interest including background information regarding your skills and experience to C.E.O./Board Secretary, Karl Ellis, up to May 11, 2016. The BW Trailblazers met at the Walton Hall on Wednesday evening for their monthly meeting. I see that members are busy out there taking down the trail stakes, so I guess that means the snowmobile season is over. The group will have their year- end meeting in April. Congratulations to Kelly and Amanda White on the birth of a son. Big sister Alexis is happy to have baby brother Connor join the family. St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in many ways by many people, and my nephew and partner will always have a special reason to celebrate. A new member of the family arrived at noon on St. Patty's Day. A great- niece was born in London to Dennis and Carly and she is named Aylah. It also just happened that she was born on her Grandma Nancy's (my sister) birthday. Everyone is doing well and we hope to see the newest member at Easter! Don and Dale Chesher are enjoying a holiday with their daughter Melody and granddaughter Alexa. They are here from Denmark for about two weeks. Time will fly when entertaining a five year old! Another great job was done by the Optimist Club with their dinner and auction held on Saturday evening. They raised over $20,000 for the Sunshine Foundation and for Community Betterment.
