At the Branch
Is the Irish part of you shining?
This is the week that anyone with
even a spot of Ireland in their genes
is wearing green and doing a jig. For
Val Watson, Julie Graber, Jim Lee
and Don Chesher, the 17th means a
new number of age to celebrate. So
sing a wee song for them if you see
them this week.
There are lots of signs that spring
is near: the tundra swans are in the
neighbourhood, the pussy willows
are in bud, the robins are hopping
about and brave souls in their
summer shorts are around. So ignore
the bits of snow still about and enjoy
the mood that brings new life and
rebirth all around us.
The kids are happy this week,
sleeping in is a choice and lots of fun
things are just waiting to happen.
Hope you were part of the fun.
Looking ahead — Holy Week is
celebrated each week day with

Picking the big winner
Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch were on hand on Saturday to help with the
Boost the Build meat draw and wing night at the branch. The event was set to raise money to
help with the ongoing renovations of the building. Shown is Comrade Lisa Glanville smiling

It was a great week at the Brussels
Legion Branch with work
progressing on the addition. The
crew is there working on installing
the lift. Everything is coming along.
The committee met with the
contractor and all seems to be
running on schedule.
Friday night suppers are back
from their break and this Friday is
roast beef.
A really great crowd was on hand

services daily leading up to Easter —
details are in the church ads, a good
way to gather as community.
The United Church folks want to
make your life easy and are offering
all the goodies you might need for
Easter. A bake sale will be held on
March 26 starting at 10 a.m. So
come then and get your treats.
Plans to celebrate Easter are in the
works. Family meals to be set,
events to confirm and lots to do in
the meantime. Easter is a time to
renew our thoughts and strive to do
better in our lives. It's a time of
growth and rebirth and for Christians
it's the time to connect the Baby
Jesus story of Christmas to the
events of Easter so many years ago.
The rebirth/renewal part reminds us
to be better at living.
But no matter our traditions,
Mother Nature lets us know in no
uncertain terms that life is ongoing
and each day is to be celebrated.
Enjoy the rain as it washes away
the grit of winter.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
