This Lenten season (the time
before Good Friday and Easter) is a
particularly apt season to learn to
slow down enough to take time for
God. Focus on Jesus who knew how
to make the most of the short time
He had among us physically. "It was
just before the Passover Feast. Jesus
knew that the time had come for him
to leave this world and go to the
Father. Having loved his own who
were in the world, he now showed
them the full extent of his love."

Gowing, Vincent to
speak provincially
By Shawn Loughlin
The Citizen
Morris-Turnberry Mayor Paul
Gowing says that he and North
Huron Reeve Neil Vincent are in
high demand since last month when
their municipalities decided to share
a number of services.
At Huron County Council's March
2 meeting, Gowing, also the Warden
of Huron County, said that the
session hosted by the two
municipalities late last month at the
Rural Ontario Municipalities
Association (ROMA) and Ontario
Good Roads Association (OGRA)
annual joint conference went over
extremely well.
After announcing that the two
adjacent municipalities would share
services such as public works, water
and wastewater, among others,
many other municipalities facing
similar financial pressures have
taken notice of the level of co-
operation.
After the joint panel discussion,
Gowing said he was bombarded with
questions about the process and how
it began.
North Huron Reeve Neil Vincent
concurred, saying there was
significant interest in the process,
which is being heralded by many in
the province.
Representatives from the two
municipalities have since been asked
to speak at a special Association of
Municipalities of Ontario session
in Muskoka for municipalities
looking to share services with
their neighbours. The session
is scheduled for early April.
Similarly, Central Huron Mayor
Jim Ginn also spoke at the March 2
council meeting, saying that the
county's joint economic
development strategy with the
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture,
Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA)
also has people talking.
Ginn said that near the end of the
ROMA/OGRA conference, a
number of those in attendance were
impressed by the Huron County -
hosted session on the initiative and
wanted to know how they could
carry out a similar project in their
municipalities.
Gowing also reported on his
attendance at the Home Opener for
the Blyth Cowbell Brewing
Company in Blyth, saying that
it's an exciting time to live in Huron
County with all of the positive
initiatives in place and the bright
future ahead.
