Students in Mrs. Hammermueller's North Woods
Elementary School's Grade 4/5 class enjoyed a special
scavenger hunt at the Brussels branch of the Huron County
Library last Thursday. The event saw students like, Marley
Gaspiric, left, and Lorenzo Hiebert scour the stacks for
specific kinds of books, helping them form a better
understanding of what kind of information can be found
where in the library. (Denny Scott photo)
Morris- Turnberry
approves produce
stands on AG4 lands
By Denny Scott
The Citizen
Morris-Turnberry Council approved
a change to its zoning bylaw which
will allow certain agriculturally -
zoned lands to host farm produce
stands.
Huron County Planner explained
to The Citizen that the change came
about as part of a landowner wanting
to be able to run a produce stand, but
wasn't allowed to under the current
zoning bylaw.
The decision was made at
Council's March 1 meeting.
"There was a request from a
property owner in the municipality
that was interested in having a
produce stand on AG4-zoned land,"
she said. "The question before
council was whether or not there
could be a produce sales outlet as a
home business on that kind of land."
An amendment to the bylaw
would allow lands zoned as AG4 (or
agricultural small holdings) to have
produce stands on them.
"Normally, those kinds of outlets
are allowed on land zoned AG1, or
general agricultural land, so it
seemed reasonable to allow it on an
AG4 land," Reid explained. "It just
hadn't been requested before."
The change came about as part of
blyaw 20-2016 which amended the
municipality's zoning bylaw, bylaw
45-2014, meaning that the change
applies to all AG4 lands in the
municipality and not just the about
which the landowner inquired.

Good weather benefits darters
PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON

Our good and bad weather
continues and the feared storm
wasn't quite as bad as anticipated
last week. Tuesday evening, the
roads were very heavy and the
driving was tough, but there
certainly has been worse.
Fortunately, it was March coming in
like a lion, so it means, it should go
out like a lamb!
Jim and Leona Armstrong are
excited on the arrival of their first
great-grandchildren, twins! The
proud grandparents are Bruce and
Claudet Armstrong and happy
parents are Brandon and Katie
Armstrong. The twin boy and girl
arrived unexpectedly, a week ahead
of the scheduled delivery. Carter and
Lexi are both doing very well and
will soon be home in Wroxeter!
Congratulations to all.
Our get -well wishes or at least
speedy recovery wishes go to Gloria
Wilbee who had surgery last week.
She had her rotator cuff repaired in
her shoulder. The surgery was done
in Toronto and once healed,
physiotherapy will follow. We hope
she comes along well.
Huronlea Home for the Aged has
welcomed a new resident in the
person of Ruth Sauve Schade. We
hope she becomes accustomed to
her new surroundings quickly.
Our sympathies are extended to
the Kellington family on the passing
of Gertie Kellington. She will be
missed by her husband Bill and her
children Larry, Bob, Murray, Brian
and Kevin and their families. I
remember meeting Gertie when I
came to Brussels when she was
working at Stephenson's grocery
store. Always smiling and pleasant,
she was a member of the
Horticultural Society and loved to
help. She will be missed by all.
The population of Walton
increased by one this week with the
arrival of a baby daughter to Josh
Machan and Paige Keffer. The girl's
name is unknown at this time, but
everyone is excited about the arrival.
Neil McDonald was home for a
visit again and this time a birthday
celebration was held for him. It is
his 65th birthday this week, so
members of our family gathered in
Bayfield at the Docks to treat him to
his birthday dinner. Neil enjoyed a
visit with Rick and me, LeeAnn,
Kelly and Adam, Scott and Alicia
and Craig. We then had a social time
at his home in Bayfield.
Congratulations to Robbie and
Brenda McIntosh on the birth of a
second grandson. Proud parents are
Jodi and Josh Nurse and they have
welcomed Bowie, for big brother
Benton to play with and love.
Congrats to all.
The Winthrop ladies gathered at
the Walton Inn for their monthly get-
together and to celebrate a March
birthday. The birthday girl was
Jeanette Robinson and joining to
wish her happy birthday were Karen
Braecker, Jennifer Vellinga, Judy
Beuerman, Yolanda Gubelmann and
Carol Reinink.
The Cranbrook darters managed
to have a good night for travelling
for their dart night last Wednesday
evening. There were 19 darters out
as a few are away on holidays. Two
teams managed to win five games
each and they were Team 6 of Steve
Bowers and Jim Blake and Team 7
of Brad Speiran and Pat Gillis. Top
shooters for the ladies were Rita
Bowers and Gayle Speiran hitting 85
and George Zwep hitting 132. The
lucky shot of the night went to Brad
Speiran.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week were Sandra Butler, Debra
Fraser, Melissa Glanville, Dean
Hackwell, Ruthann Hoegy, Andy
Pethick, Nicole Stevenson, Brian
Wilbee, John Braecker, Kaleigh
McCallum, Neil McDonald,
William Ringgenberg, Jerry Zwep,
Allison Braecker, Jeanette
Robinson, Eric Ross, Fred McClure,
Ruth Axtmann and Bridget
McCallum. Happy birthday to all.
