Austin Bieman, who spoke in the Kincardine public speaking, was awarded first and will now go on to the speak in Fergus on April 2. Austin is also wished a happy birthday on March 6. The congregation and community wish Ivan Dow a speedy recovery after his fall in the barn and undergoing an operation. After the introit selection, "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty". Brian lit the Christ candle and read responsively the call to worship. The congregation sang the opening hymn, "Love, Divine, All Loves Excelling". The prayer of confession was then recited. For the children's story Brian handed out different pieces to a puzzle and each noted what part they had. Each took their part of the puzzle and put it together to make a picture. When we add each piece and we add our talents we are not all the same. God has a plan for each of us and a plan in this puzzle of life. We are all an important piece but without our pieces we aren't whole. We listened to the word of God as Larry Harper read from Joshua 5: 9- 12, Psalm 32 responsively with the congregation and Luke 15: 11-32 read by Barb Harper. For the sermon, Brian reflected on Luke 15: 11-32; the parable of the "Lost Son". There was once a man who had two sons, said Jesus. The younger son was not happy at home. He dreamed of an exciting life far away. One day he decided to leave home. He went to his dad and wanted him to pay him for his share of the land. The father gave the son what he wanted and the son took it and went far away. At first he was happy, doing whatever he wanted to do, he went wherever, he wanted to go and bought whatever he wanted to buy. Before long he had spent all his money. He decided to go back home. His father saw him coning and ran to meet him. He hugged and kissed him and said, "Let's have a Party". His son was lost but now was found. God is like this father, he is full of joy when someone decides to obey him. Brian knew what it was like to be the lost son. We have all felt the loss of going astray and are all characters of this parable. It was the grace of God that brought Brian to be a minister. Jesus is always there to pick us up. God has patience. He allows us to return to him and celebrate with him when we return. We as Christians welcome people back if they have taken the wrong path. Let God shower us with his gifts and love. We are all a part of God's puzzle. The hymn of response was "What Wondrous Love is This". Brian sang the first verse and everyone joined in singing the remaining verses. Allen Walker reported on the minute for missions. The UCW turkey dinner was such a great success. We have had a lot of wonderful comments on the meal. We raised $922. On March 20 (Palm Sunday) there will be bowling in Lucknow with Belgrave, Dungannon and Ashfield Trinity, 3 - 6 p.m. with pizza after. On Good Friday, March 26 there is a service in Belgrave at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Joyce VanCamp has returned home to Alberta after staying with her parents Jim and Mary Hunter. While here she visited with her sister Gwen until her death on Feb. 23 and visited with other family members, relatives and friends. The annual World Day of Prayer written by the Women of Cuba, was held in the lower hall of the Belgrave United Church on Friday at 2 p.m. As the women gathered, they were welcomed to an area of the hall to visit and enjoy a drink of lemon lime and pick up a Jasmin flower petal as they do in Cuba. The processional began, with several women bringing in items that represent their livelihood and placed what they had brought on the centre table with a bouquet of butterfly jasmin flowers. The leader Muriel Coultes welcomed everyone and proceed with the call to worship. The readings by Sheila Nixon and replies by the audience were interspersed with hymns and prayers. Elly Dow read the two scriptures after which the video "Receive Children. Receive Me" was shown. The offering was received and as they placed their offering on the plate they also placed their Jasmin petal as a symbol of our dedication of our lives to God. The group then enjoyed a social time. A favourite soup of Cuba had been prepared by Mrs. Coultes, which all were given samples of, and special fruit and Cuban cookies prepared by Wilma Higgins and Pat Barnes were enjoyed.
