In ' speaking of the 'building of the: new county home. at a cost of •$1,087,303.00, he said. that a 50% grant is. re- ceived ori . this expenditure. The present county hoz* will acco- modate 101 -and within the ,past week had to refuse admittance to two people. The new 'home will give about 240 beds, all told. It is expected xhat con= struction will .be made...on a ten year , debenture without raising the. county 'mill rate.. ' • Reeve Blake expressed cern about the fact that county officials think the. county 'has too many roads . in comparison o. their assessment. A future step might 'be to revert' some of the roads to the township and they .will have "little to say iri such a matter'' "'The number. of visitors to the Huroh County Museum 'this past year has ''been 2Q,422.. Over 70 cattle ' were chased by , ;dogs. , in the north . of the township. A local valuator in ' the matter 'ruled "no : claim' by the cattle owners. The cattle owners took the issue to law and a provincial valuator was -sent in. ' The ruling. was that 'the.. township pay. .40' pounds for. 44 cattle at .23c ,per pound. Mr, Bradley felt. that the dumps Were being abused, by some ratepayers. He stated he would remain on council and not ' contest the - Reeveship for health. reasons. • Councillor Donald MacKenzie stated that no snow fence was being erected this year: He .was the township hope to . use the $1.,500, the •.•approximate figure that it costs, to build better snow roads. "The results 'remain to be Seen," he. said, .Mr, MacKenzie stated that' the people could not hope .to : see the mill rate go down with the increasing costs and demands. • Tom Howard did not comment on township • affairs as .; he felt the. other. members had' outlined , things.' He was. strongly. in favour ..of two room 'schools as were .others at the meeting. He• suggested .that the new "Huron Township set - .up" be, watched ,closely for re- sults. Reuben , . Wilson: , spoke strongly in favour .of. 'the ' area. Many comments for' against' brought ratepayers.. to their feet. Mr.: Wilson, ' Walter. Alton •• and Bab Simpson,, 'whoseschools are not now in :the area, were forced :to give. up their positions on the board: Rod MacKenzie and .Eh' don' Culbert, both having anoth- er year • on the two-year 'term to serve on; the: beard,; ,spoke briefly. . .
