THE DRIVER
SETS THE RATE:.
(By J; Carl Hemingway)
We are. now ; inthe midst of
theaoliday season with more
than ever before .on our
highways. ; Accidents are • rust
that much . More likely to . hap-
pen.
An interesting . itemcame to
my desk this week. One well
known Auto Insurance company
has •been •giving extra medical
r ayment benefits to those who
are total abstainers.. This ..com-
pany is ' now • willing :.!to - give
double the extra coverage and
again at •no increase iii premium
if you sigh the -toal :abstainers
.
form.
After two years of'.'exiperieice
the company has found .that non-
drinking drivers have fewer ac-
cidents, and .they are less serious
accidents, therefore. more cover-
age can be given at no extra
cost.
Wep„ ' a .the
.often com lain about'
high cost of Auto Insurance- but
let ;us remeinber it isthe driver
who sets. the , rate. Have fewer
and. Jess costly. accidents•. and the
Department of Insurance will see
toit that' the rates are reduced.
•accordingly..
At a meeting of farmers affect.-
ed' by the Hydro ; line to • be built
from ,ISeaforthto 'Clint/ori 'it was:
agreed • that'Ithere was a depreci-
atiori of re -sale value when "a
Hydroline crosses a • farm. • For
this, reason several . refused ,. to
Sign the contract offered by
Hydro. • •
Others stated that , they had
signed ', because :the represerita,
•tive of Hydro .stated that' the On-
tario Federation had approved
the amounts offered and Kthat..the.
