Mrs. Carman J. Beaton of De-
troit, who with her husband. visits
here frequently and who is" a na-
tive:of ' this comunity, is 'con-
valescing, from a 'very delicate
spinal operation which she : un-
derwent in Providence Hospital
in Detroit. .
It was in'. December .last. that
Mrs. • Beaton ' first ; commenced
suffering from neck and „ back
pains. Various treatment brought •
little .relief and finally.' one of
the best bone specialists in the
city, had x-rays takenwhich, re
vealed the ' deterioration of- .the
disc between the 4th and ,5th
vertebrae. She wore a • collar
.brace for three months, hopeful
that 'the.! condition might correct'
itself. When, it .did not, surgery
:was resorted. to and Mrs. .Beaton.
was on the operating table for
five hours 'while the delicate and
dangerous surgery , was perform.

The disc and joint were removed,
and• 'three. 'pieces of bone from..
the . lower spine were grafted be_
tween the above .mentionedverte-'
brae. She was Hospitalized for,.
twenty-four • days and' has now
been home for about three weeks.

brace while the graft is knitting.
