until 1922 when he sold the busi-

arid • he and Mrs, Graf moved to
Goderich.
Mention ,of. the. 'McGarry hotel
raises nostalgic memories. This
hostelry was 'orginally known as
Whiteley House and was oneof
eight hotels. ;and two liquor stores
which operated in Lucknow. In
1888 John McGarry, bought: the
Whiteley House and operated it
fort. 27 years until his. death • in
December 1915. :The following
Junethe furnishings and equip-
ment were sold ,by .auction with
John Purves as the . auctioneer.
It was following this that 'Mr,.
Graf opened his 'butcher shop,.
The McGarry • House and the
Cain House were the last ;of the
Luckngw hotels, with their open
:bars, ;foot 'rails ` and brass spit-
toons, to survive the local option
