One orning: early in May 1939,
Irvin Wittich began an adventure,
the culmination of 'which isone
of this . area's: widely known firms',
Wittich's Bread Limited of Ay(
ton..
In that first year Mr. Wittich
worked alone with the aid of. his
wife, baking in the .early morn-
ing and vending the fruits of his
labour ' to the local residents. The
quality of his merchandise soon
became • well known '
Early in 1940 the •demand ., for
his wares had 'increased so great-,
ly• that Mr. 'Wittich • was 'forced
to move his shop to: a ..new and
larger location on the •main street
of the •village. The next year this
site . was purchased for. the sum
of $1100: At : this time the first
full time employee. was . also ,en-
gaged, Bruce Sachs, Who 'is still
connected with the firm.: ':
This trend' , to:•. , expansion' .has
,continued through ; the, passing
years:.. until now, in the year' of
its Twenty Fifth Anniversary
Wittich's ,Bread. Limited has . a
permanent staff. of 'approximately
seventy persons and ' .' a working
fleet ' of seventeen large : trucks.
These vehicles;. serve a wholesale
and' retail area : of nearly 11,000
square miles' 'encompassing 120
mile circle with . its centre at: Ay-
ton.. • •
In this year of. their • Twenty

white floor -length gown, . of SwisS
satin brocade, styled : with lily-
point sleeves. and a jortrait neck-
line.' The bell shaped skirt ,had a.
detachable chapel : train • extended
from' 'a bow. Her 'fingertip ' veil.
of silk illusion, 'a ' Swiss . import, '
was. ` held ' by a crown of 'seed
pearls and crystal drops. She car-
ried a cascade of red roses show-,
ered with sweetheart roses, '
Maid of honour was ,Miss Pat-
ricia Laidlaw of. London and the
bridesmaids were Miss Gwen
Cooper.' of London and Miss"Mar-
jorie . Alton of Goderich. The. three-
some formed a lovely' background
in their. • cocktail -length gowns of
lucerne , bluepeau which were'
identically styled with square
necklines, 'elbow length' sleeves,.
and sheath skirts. Over ; the skirt
was worn a bouffant. overskirt
fashioned with a rosette match-
ing •bow headdresses with ''cock-
tail veils, :: and ' carried . colonial
bouquets o f., white. pom : pom
mums...
The organist was Mrs. Fred. -Mc-
Quilhn, ' who . played "Holy, Holy,
• Holy as the processional hymn,
and for the 'recessional, "Oh .Per-

Marilyn Finlayson ' of ' Stratford
who sang . •the "Wedding . Prayer"
and the Twenty -Third Psalm.
