"There a `re a•' lot of strange
things happening in this' world. *A'
chap- came into the office the other
day, pulled a .copy: of the Lucknow
Sentinel' out of his pocket, 'opened
it to 'th'e, page in Which we ..had an
interview with Reeve George. Joynt
of Lucknow, chairman of the .Bruce
County : Home Committee. He-ask-
ed
e`ask-ed us what was meant by a certain
statement, and we. said we had no.
idea, because it- was . Mr.. ,Joynt's'
answer to a. query we submitted
:aid that they •were. his words, not"
ours, so we didn't know what •.he
had in: ,mind..` Then we asked our
visitor his name, where he came
from, and what his ' interest• was .in
the matter.. Herefused. to tell/ us,
except. that he came ' from a .point
"south "of :here" and that he might
tell us * his name' later. We . replied.
that ' he .would tell us at once or
the conversation would end. 'When.
he again refused;: we walked away.
He called' to 'us later .that "there
might be trouble over that para-
graph" but added:' "I'm not say-
ing there will be." So we told him.
to 'go : right ahead and create all
the trouble :he liked. .Then he left
the office:
"Ever since, we .have.,been ' cur=
nous about this chap. Is he asham-
ed of his name? Or is he the kind
of chap who would say a lot of
things in a Letter to the Editor.and
then hide behind' a .pen -name?. Or..
did he think we were * the. kind of
editor who : wouId turn: white. ' with
fear when he threatenedus with a
lawsuit and that we would immed-
iately get on the phone, -call George,
Joynt at Lucknow and urge him
to issue ,a retraction at 'once before
we both .got sued? Those who know
us. can hardly imagine ' that', we •
would •do any .such thing.: And those
who know George°Joynt will: know
that he wouldfeel, the same way."
