the 72nd warden of Bruce Coun-
ty, by acclamation, as the. 1944.
edition . of the Bruce, •- County
puncil opened its inaugural ses-
sion. at 'Walkerton on . Tuesday
evening, January 18th.
Other reeves who were nomin-

He has always been keenly inter-
ested in agriculture and operates
a large farm of his own. Mr.
Shewfelt is married and has 'two

is the first reeve from• Kincardine
township . to become Warden since
Reeve L. T. 'Bland held the of-

the most favorable position, fin-
ancially, that it has enjoyed . in
its entire history. The . debenture
6 indebtedness, which in 1923 a-

completely , wiped out, and, in
addition, the County begins the
new year with a surplus of $100,, -
moo!, of which $85,000.00 is in-
vested in War Bonds and avail-
able for post-war reconstruction.

decrease he said was particularly
noticeable in rural areas.. • • ,
There were 101 teachers of
