Today Was stent on a. long bus,
trip from Mannheim to Lucerne
n .Switzerland. This route is
through the Black Forest Moun-
tains, and its rugged ;scenic
beauty is differentagain to what
we have been ,seeing, and beg-
gars description. Towering Pines
seem to stretch a !hundred feet
above and below' us as we wind
along `the ' face of 'this rugged
range. These trees taper only
slightly from their base and are
stately and thick along' lihe
slopes. There were concentrat-
ions of Germany. troops in train-
ing. in_ this area in the- last. war,
and when the Allies set the for-
est 'ablaze with, fire bombs, Hi't-
ler is said to have ..gone into his
greatest rage, .
• Late, in the afternoonwe cross-
•ed the Swiss 'border, and stopped
at.Sehafthausen: to see the Rhine
Falls,. the . highest in Europe, and
whale picturesque, can't be Com-
pared with Niagara Falls. Lu-
cerneis our stop tonight. with
our "hote;l. Overlooking. beautiful
Lake Lucerne. It is a :fascinating
'city with very modern. stores,
many of w.ljdh 'naturally featur-
ed thevarious makes. of watches
for which -this. _country' -is fam-
