Bayfield Post
Letters
Dear Mr. Burton:
to the Editor
October 27
Thank you for last week's political story.
You said it all and unlike others, it
didn't take all day to read.
It appears to me, however, that you'd make
a poor politician; what with using logic,
common sense and real feelings...tsk, tsk:
If at some time you want to tackle a real
meaty problem, check into the by-law
regarding the confinement of dogs or the
lack of, within the Village. Mondays
(garbage day) are the most entertaining.
The incessant barking of these "oh, he
won't hurt you" dogs, is something we'll
check into if you solve the first
problem.
Thanks for the paper every week. I enjoy
it.
Steve Argyle

SUNDAY STAR
A mercifully short chapter in the endless
saga of the Star. One person has decided
to withdraw, so some of your dates of
responsibility have changed. (By the way,
I think it was very decent of her to with-
draw at once, when it would have been just
as eaxy to be a stinker and wait until
just before her turn.) Here's the revised
lists
FLEETWOOD Nov. 1
GAMMAGE Nov. 8
GODBOLT Nov. 15
HILL Nov. 22
HOFFMAN Nov. 29
ISRAEL Dec. 6
JOHNSTON Dec. 13
KOK Dec. 20
MCLEOD Dec. 27
MORLEY Jan. 3
STEELE Jan. 10
STEVENS Jan. 17
CROSTHWAITE Jan. 24
DE JONG Jan. 31
Everything is going beautifully so far. I
for one think it's great to have the paper at
the cost to me of only two trips to Clinton,
each of which only takes z hour. Destroy
your old list, love to all and Happy
Hallowe'en.

BABES BANQUET
BY Bud Sturgeon
The 1941 Champion Bayfield Babes held their
team awards night at the Albion Hotel last
Friday evening. Although finding themselves
in third place in the four team Bluewater
Ladies Slo-pitch League after the end of
regular season play, the Babes rallied to
their second straight; championship. En
route to the victory they defeated the
Bayfield Blue Shadows in the semi-finals by
11-5 and 14-8 scores and then swept by the
Varna Agricos, 3 games to 1, after dropping
the opener 9-6. The winning scores were
10-6, 13-10 and 10-1.
The Awards Night at the Albion Hotel was well
attended as players, coaches, parents and
fans turned out to honor the individual award
winners, enjoy a succulent roast beef dinner
and engage in the merriment. A surprise
guest was last year's Babes Batting Champ
and 1979 Most Valuable Player, Joyce 1vlcilwain,
who now resides in Edmonton.
The 1981 Award Winners were as follows:
Most Valuable Player (as voted by the team
members), Barb Sturgeon, who batted .629
with seven home runs and made 136 putouts
from her shortstop position. Best All Round
Player (combining sportsmanship, athletic
abilities, attendance, and making a signifi-
cant contribution to the team), Patti Rau,
who batted .519 and had a pitching record of
13 wins and 4 losses. Most Valuable Player
of the Playoffs was Matty Francis, who batted
.760 in post season play. 1981 Batting Champ-
ion (regular season) was Rhea Potter who
recorded a .733 mark in 10 games played. Most
improved Player was second basemen Mary Ann
Rathwell who made 88 putouts and batted .591
with 3 home runs in eleven games played.
But congratulations went out to all the team
members as they won the championship as a unit.
Other members of the 1981 Babes were: Terri
Brandon, Laurie Pruss, Lori Talbot, Kathy
Hunking, Nora West, Marie Lobb, Trudy Robertson,
Bev Semple, Patty MacDonald, Cheryl Pole and
Marie Fitzsimons. The team was coached by
Bud Sturgeon and Tim West and sponsored by
the Albion Hotel in Bayfield.
